Lead, kindly light, amid th' encircling gloom...

PRELUDE

Ran across this topic, thanks to a certain gravedigger at MS..read couple, wanted to leave. cant. Debated in my mind if I should write or not. now u know who won. Debated because I dont consider myself person enough to write on this. Still am going ahead. Theres something I saw two days ago that really made me write this.

Guess the topic is a bit offset. Should have been something like ’can there be sudden peace in a world of ongoing terror’. and I would answer with a sad and bleak NO. Its a very simple statement. Bad breeds faster than Good. Uneasy to accept, but sadly true. Some people of religion A gets butchered by religion B in some remote place on the other side of the planet. People of religion A massacre double the quantity of B as a compliment in some other part of the world.

Thats how fast Bad breeds. If some people of religion A save people of religion B its only just a small news item. Thats how barren Good is. The only balance is that Good however small, perseveres better than bad. Governments, world leaders, lovers, saints, scholars, crooks all become one and the same - all consumed by the inexplicably intoxicating lust for revenge - for the wrongs that someone else did, for the wrongs that someone else suffered.

Religious fanatism is not the only kind of terrorism we see. Border terrorism is one of the many siblings it has. What is it that makes me trust a person this side of a barbed wire more than one standing on the other side? What makes us think that our rights are heavier than theirs? or our wrongs, lighter? what is it that makes them think so? I have read numerous articles about extremist and terrorist activities and have really got startled at the level of cruelty that we are capable of inflicting on our fellow humans.

Theres another reason for me being bitter. Day before yesterday I had a video clipping forwarded to my mailbox that showed some terrorists slitting a guys throat while he was still alive, with a taped mouth and hands tied behind...Have you heard the guttural whine of a taped man with a knife on his throat? I havent got words to describe what I saw...

Sometimes I wish that we truly had an alien invasion in this world, something like the kind we saw Sigourney Weaver hunt down. For one thing, we might see everyone stand shoulder to shoulder and fight a common enemy. Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Jews - up in arms against a common threat. Iraqis, Americans, indians, Pakis, Israelites and Palestinians - comrades in arms, fighting for a common cause. I would gladly join them.

INTERLUDE 1

FERNANDO - ABBA

’’There was something in the air that night

The stars were bright, Fernando

They were shining there for you and me

For liberty, Fernando

Though I never thought that we could lose

There’s no regret

If I had to do the same again

I would, my friend, Fernando’’

i might sing this and fernando might be a Paki.

Bush might sing this and fernando might be Saddam.

A palestine might sing this and Fernando might be Sharon.

Even if we fail, we would at least be known as a species that stood together till the end. It would be sad if a millenia later we were introduced to other species as one that got extinct cutting each other’s throat. Perhaps we need a bigger threat to remind us that we are not the real threat here. And even on that day if we dont stand together - may we all perish. Cause we dont deserve to live.

What do we fight for? piece of land in this planet demarcated with barbed wires and named as countries? Or for beliefs that we have absolutely nothing to believe by other than the belief? What is terrorism for some is freedom fight for others, they say. Ok, but do u fight for freedom slitting the throat of a still fully conscious man?? Someone who never wronged you? Its not what you change, but how you change that counts, Mr. Terrorist. The end doesnt always justify the means. In some wars, both sides lose.

The world is the way the world is..it has been so for countless ages and life has prospered in it well and lived in harmony.

Live it or Leave it.

INTERLUDE 2

INNOCENT MAN - BILLY JOEL

’’Some people sleep all alone every night

Instead of taking a lover to bed

Some people find that it’s easier to hate

Than to wait anymore

Some people hope for a miracle cure

Some people just accept the world as it is...’’

To sit back and do a detailed synopsis on who’s wrong and who’s right is a futile task. But life has a great way of bouncing back, of making paradises out of deserts. I hope we will.  Im sure we will. Because after everything is said and done..its still all about humanity.

And humanity is what mankind is all about.

INTERLUDE 3

BETTER MAN - ROBBIE WILLIAMS

’’As my soul heals the shame

I will grow through this pain

Lord I’m doing all I can

To be a better man...’’

May we all have a world where every neighbour is a friend...

EPILOGUE

Im sorry if u didnt find what I wrote informative. But as I said before I dont think im a person enough to write this in an ’informative’ kind of way. Check this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism if you are really looking for some facts and figures about terrorism.

No fancy pen-pushing this time. I just felt like writing this. And I did.

  • Two weeks ago a poor worker from kerala named Maniyappan was abducted from Afghanistan. His body, throat slit, was recovered near a dirt track in Afghanistan’s Delarem district last tuesday. I dedicate this review to his memory
