Canberra may not have the same pizazz as bigger cities like Melbourne and Sydney, but it still has its own unique attractions and positives.
Canberra is an amazing city because it was totally planned by Sir Walter Burley Griffin. The citys roads use geometric shapes to lead up to Australias magnificent new Parliament House. From a point on one of the mountains surrounding Canberra you can look down and see the Australian War Memorial, Old Parliament House and New Parliament House in a straight line, going across the beautiful Lake Burley Griffin. The aethetics of Canberra are a must see of their own.
Attractions in Canberra include the Old and New Parliament Houses, the Australian War Memorial, Questacon (Australian Science and Technology Centre), the Australian Film and Sound Archive, the Australian National Museum and Art Gallery and the many different embassies belonging to different countries.
Old and New Parliament Houses both are interesting, educational and worthwhile places to visit. New Parliament House is worth a visit just to look at thew magnificent architecture alone. It is where Australias Parliament is run from, and you can even watch Parliament in action. Old Parliament House is also a beautiful building. It is no longer used for parliament and is simply a historic tourist site.
Other great features of Canberra are worth a look. One of my favorite places is Questacon, the Science and Technology Centre. There are heaps of fun, hands on experiments that will have even the biggest kid entertained and learning. The Film and Sound Archive is also great and very interesting.
Canberra City is very beautiful, with a large variety of shops, accomodation and restaurants. Canberra also has a small casino.
