Ever been to a circus??
If not let me explain what it look like.
A big tent ?.no a big and colorful tent ..no a big tent colorful from inside odd and rough looking from outside. Yes now it is ok .All those characters in colorful silk dresses with contrast color silk frills and patches.
Ever been to a Numaaish (exhibition)??
If not let me explain what it look like.
It resembles somewhat to NAUTANKI( sort of theatre art in India).A stage is set with colorful curtains on all sides. When I say colorful I mean bright red , bright yellow, bright blue assorted by bright colorful strings of sparkling stars.
Ever been to an old city park??
Well you all know what it look like.
With those stone benches here and there and with graveled flooring.
Ever seen a thatched hut in a village??
Made of arched thatched roof with mud walls .
Review starts
When you take left turn from sony world junction in koramangla and move towards NGV keep looking at the right hand side. There is a place where you least expect to see a good restaurant . Well there it is Chandni Chowk, hardly visible if it is not for all the lighting they have covered the restaurant with .During the rainy season its covered with a poly cover to avoid the thatched roof from being ruined.
I will categorize my review in two parts
1. The ambience
2. The food
1. The ambience
You must be wondering why I was explaining those strange settings when I began the review.
Here we go . Just before entering the restaurant you see an old and rickety door .Don?t worry open it and step onto the graveled flooring .
You will see waiters in colorful silk dresses with contrast color silk frills and patches like you see in a CIRCUS.
You will see brightly colored curtains assorted by bright colorful strings of sparkling stars like you see in an exhibition(NUMAAISH)
You will see stone benches and stone tables as in an old CITY PARK.
You will see thatched roof adorned by jaipuri print fabric
A few other worth mentioning things are the menu which is printed on the silk fabric and fixed in a frame used for embroidery and the walls adorned by the posters of famous bollywood stars like you see in a DHABA or in the barber shop in India.
2. The food
This is one place is Bangalore where you can get authentic north Indian cuisine.
Being a vegetarian I am not the right person to comment on the quality and taste of the non veg dishes. But based on my friend?s experience I can say it is pretty good.
As for vegetarian food I found it very good , specially Panner Tikka and Aloo Dum.
Price wise it is not very tough on your pocket. A meal for two will cost you 200 rs. to 300 rs.
Pros
They were playing punjabi remix version of Summer of 69 which surprisingly I liked very much and felt like dancing. They play a lots of good Punjabi numbers.
Good for north Indian cuisine.
Affordable
Cons
Stone benches are not comfortable , I wish they could have cushioned them.
As I said the interior looks like a mixture of circus, numaaish and a park .( I apologize for my debauched thoughts but the environment made me think that some girl named salma will come and start dancing as they do in nautankis)
I wish they could improve it a little bit and make it more stylish.
- Outside space of restaurant is not maintained properly .During the rainy season its quite slippery . They can maintain it and give the exterior a more decent look.
Ok all said and done .
So go there once have Aloo Dum( I luuuuuv it irrespective of how it is made) show some confusion on the bizarre interior and please rate and comment the review.
cheers
