Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a wonderful book by Roald Dahl. The first movie of it was alright. (Thats the one with Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.) Johnny Depp did what he did well but I didnt like it. They made him look like Michael Jackson. Its a kids movie, not my taste. I remember looking at my mum half way through it and we shared a look as if to say god this sucks. The oompa loompas were cute and funny but apart from that I cant think of much else that was good. The graphics of all of the chocolate and the garden made out of candy were stunning as well as Charlies house. The basic story line is that this kid named Charlie, whos family is very poor and live with both sets of grandparents who sleep in the same bed because they are so poor, finds a golden ticket in a Wonka Chocolate bar. This means that he is one out of five lucky winners from all over the world who gets to go inside the long been closed Wonka Chocolate Factory. There is actually a Wonka brand of Chocolate. Its not that bad.
Anyway, Willy Wonka plans to hand down his factory to the one child left after the tour of his factory. One by one all children but Charlie are involved in an accident of some sort and taken away, each accident is followed by a slightly amusing song performed by the Oompa Loompas.
Throughout the movie flashbacks from Willys life are shown to us of him when he was a child and his dentist father played by Christopher Lee. The movie would have been better if they were left out. All over the movie was stunning visually and the performance by Charlie was good but apart from that it wasnt worth watching.
