Atkins Low Carb Bars

After Following the Carb Addicts diet for a little over a year and exercising everyday along with eating low fat I lost 90 pounds. The Carb Addicts Diet is similar to Atkins in the sense carbs are restricted. The Difference is, on the carb addicts diet you can still eat the carbs you need from fruit and vegetables and even carbs from pasta and breads, but only during one meal which may last only one hour. For the rest of the day you must eat less then 4 grams of carbs per meal. This is a little tough. Except for during your’reward hour’ as the book calls it, you must not eat anything with sugar, starches etc. such as bread, pasta, cakes, cookies, fruit, fruit juice, skim milk, tomatoes, and the list goes on and on. For a meat eater this diet would be easier for you(I myself am a vegetarian) Low carb foods you can eat the whole day include but aren’t limited too, Eggs, Fish, Red Meat, Poultry, Cream, Cheese as well as, lettuce, celery, cucumbers, cauliflower among many other veggies.  You must be careful that what you do eat doesn’t contain hidden carbs.such as bread crumb coatings or fillers etc.(even MSG can cause unwanted insulin reactions)


There are TONS of products on the market that are low carb thanks to the popularity of the Atkins Diet as well as other low carb diets. Products such as low carb bread mixes, batters, cookies, candy, shakes, icecream etc. Even Low carb’breading’ for deep frying meat/fish and low carb veggies.  Also you can find low carb bars and pre-made bread, chocolate, shake powders, and desserts among other things.


I would not recommend  this diet to everyone, but I highly recommend  a reading of the book’The Carbohydrate Addicts diet’ By Dr. Rachel and Dr. Richard Heller, to anyone who wishes to lose weight and/or gain a better control on their eating.


The book explains why, physically,  carbs can cause weight gain and make it hard for people with a carb addiction to lose weight, due to insulin reaction to carbs(such as causing someone to be more hungry and to have cravings, or to cause the body to store rather then burn fat). It also includes a quiz to see if this type of diet is good for you and your level, if any of carb addiction. Low carb recipes are including along with a program which spans several weeks, and changes depending on how long you have been on the program and your progress. There is also a chart of how many carbs are in certain foods such as fruits and veggies, meat and dairy, fish, aswell as listings for beverages. The book also gives advice and offers a chart for proper weighing.


This diet can be tough. You DO need to exercise. You CAN’T eat high fat food constantly, and remain sedentary and expect results. You WILL have to work at it as with any diet program, but it IS worth it. And this book and program is worth looking into:)
