I totally disagree with all of you who say that the Idea Netsetter is not good. Total rubbish I say.My Idea Netsetter is excellent. With around 94% signal strength, I get a blazzing speed of about 4kbps download and about 0.5Kbps upload. (I used a couple of online sites to check the real bandwidth)
Can any other service surpass that? My Idea Netsetter is so fast that it takes just 10 minutes to send a one-line text email from my outlook express. Earlier I was using the Tata plug-2-surf thingi but one fine morning that burnt due to overheat( I was downloading a very large file that took about 3 days to complete). Idea has a good network coverage in Goa so this time I opted for Idea Netsetter.
Man, I tell you I am soooo happy I could cry! Consider how happy I am:
-Surfing is soo fast that I can login to my yahoo email account within 25 minutes of trying. Now that’s speed.
-I can open my first email at yahoo within 15 minutes.
-I can read and reply to ten small emails within 2 or three hours.
-I can complete my entire days online work within one week.
-I can open the google search page within 3 tries in 10 minutes.
-I bet I could probably download a 5 minute video within one month.
I mean what more can a Indian used to sub-standard service and products want? I should be lucky that after paying Rs 3, 000/- hard cash, the company deems it fit to atleast give us a piece of imported plastic called a USB modem. It’s even got a little green light blinkin on it.(Wow) I mean, I’m not sure if there’s even a modem inside that thing but there sure is a lovely green blinking light. Makes you happy don’t it?
Ah, I almost forgot this: The moment the sim card in the modem was activated(by the way, it took six days to get that done), the first thing I got was spam sms from Idea. Amazing uh?
And know what? because I was so happy, the company has refused to accept my request for a refund. I still remember the face of the nice lady manager at the Idea office. She couldn’t help grinning at me. She must have been thinking "Sucker, we gottcha ya didn’t we?"An idea can change your life! It sure did.Gimme a gun somebody I’m gonna shoot me some ideas!

No change. It still take me like 15 minutes to send a two line text email from the outlook express.The modem itself connects instantly to the net and claims to have a speed of 236.8Kbps(I’d love to know how they calculate that). The modem interface has a stats section that indicates the upload speed to be a breath-taking 0.10Kbps(ZERO POINT ONE) kinda of makes you say "WOW" don’t it?

Dispatched letter to local service center as well as Nodal Officer demanding that their service improve to acceptable levels i.e. at least 20Kbps download and 10Kbps upload within the next 15 days or I will not pay any of their bills.Three days later I receive a series of phone calls as well as a visit at my residence by a senior Idea Cellular rep and the local agency sales managers.

Download speed is anything between 15 to 30 Kbps and upload between 5 to 7 Kbps. I now have no hesitation in saying that "Idea can change"

Honey moon over. After about 10 days of good service it is back to square one. Now the signal strength is extreemly erratic moving rapdily from 0 to 94% with zero bandwidth even at 94%. Even the act of connecting to the net requires a lot of effort and in the end, useless.
By the way, there one more thing you should know: Idea cellular website is useless in filing complaints related to your internet. Ditto for their phone number. Did you know their customer support phone number(12345) has six options none of which deal with their internet service. The only way you can file a complaint and get some action is to actually write to them. And good luck with that! Conclusion: Idea Netsetter is definately not worth our time or money.
