Movie Review Of Company

Psst - This section will contain some inside trivia about the film.

Quotes - Good one liners from the movie.

Oops - Goofs From the movie.

Director - Ramgopal Varma

Screenplay - Jaideep Sahani

Superb Gangster pic about a cold hearted Bombay gangster, Malik (Ajay Devgan) who recruits young fire brand Chandu (Vivek Oberoi) into his gang. After Eliminating many small gangs they Chandu not only rises very fast in the gang (shades of satya) but also becomes the Mallik’s most trusted lietenant. The Gang now starts behaving like a big company (hence the name). Very soon, The Joint Polics Commissioner, Srinivasan (Mohanlal in his first hindi film) starts eliminating gangsters and soon Malik, His girfriend Saroja (Manisha Koirala) and Chandu’s wife Kanu (An unrecognisable Antara Mali) flee to Hong Kong to escape arrest and run the gang from there. A misunderstanding between Malik and Chandu makes chandu flee to nairobi and the rivalry starts heating up between friends turn foe which results in lots of killing of each other gang members. The Joint commissioner goes to nairobi, kenya to persuade chandu to give up. The continous cat and mouse scnes go on right till the final scene. Although Company may never enjoy the cult status of Satya nor does it go in to character study like Satya, this is truly an outstanding movie with superb Screenplay by Jaideep Sahani,

Crisp editing by chandan arora which keeps the movie going at very fast track, superb Cinematography by Hemant Trivedi and oustanding music score by Sandeep Chowta. But truly the winner of the movie is an super impresive performance by debutant actor Vivek Oberoi and superbly supported by ajay devgan, antara mali, mohanlal, seema biswas and Manisha Koirala. A truly hard hitting realitic movie by Ramgopal Varma who proves that you dont require a huge starcast or songs (Thankfully there are only 3 songs..2 of them are used in the background) to make a good movie. It will always be the script which will be the king.

Psst -

1) Once again Ramgopal Varma was totaaly against inclusion of songs in the movie and once again he had to give up as no one would want to risk a songless film. He used only 3 songs..2 of which were used in the background.

2) Movie is loosely inspired from real life gangster rivalry between Dawood Ibrahim and Chotta Rajan. Chotta rajan was once a trusted lietennat of Dawood Ibrahim and many scenes were inspired from real life incidents. The Role of Mohanlal as J.C.P. Srinivasan is based on the real life Bommbay J.C.P. Mr. D. Sivanandan, who was largely responsible in eliminating mjor gangsters from bombay.

3) Ramgopal Varma had held a special screening a day before the movie for Police Officers and present amongst them was the former J.C.P Mr. D.Sivanandan. He is said to have loved the movie.

4) Vivek Oberoi was supposed to make a small cameo in Ramgopal Varma’s Jungle but refused as he wanted to act where his role was of significance.

5) Producer Boney kapoor and Director Ramgopal Varma had a cold war which lasted for nearly 5 years and it ultimately ended when they decided to make this movie.

6) The Song.’’Hum Ko kitna pyaar hai’’ is often showed on music channels and is available on the original soundtrack but is never shon or heard in the movie.

7) Once again Ramgopal Varma digs at the hindi film industry with Neeraj Vora in a cameo who plays someone like Karan Johar.

8) Watch out for trademark steadycam sequence when Chandu escapes a shootout in nairobi, kenya.

9) Ajay Devgan is shown smoking a cigarette in nearly most of his scenes.

10) Final cellular phone scene between Ajay Devgan And Mohanlal is a tribute to The al pacino - robert de niro confrontation scene of Heat.

11) The Voice over narration is by Markand Deshpandey.

Quotes

1) ’’Agar aap ek aur khilayegi, to pehle do jo mere andar gaye hai, unki keemat chali jaaygei; Yeh Samajne ki Koshish bhi mat karna.’’

2) ’’Apne dhandey main ek galti maaf karna, Sabse badi galti hai.’’

3) ’’Pyaar, Pyaar Main. Its all about loving your..um..lovings.’’

4) ’’Yuhi. Kabhi Kabhi.’’

5) ’’Agar yeh offer main aapko du to? Main Bhi Chandu Nahi Hoon.’’

Oops

1) A nearly flawless movie had just one flaw. When a gangster is hot in Antop Hill..The telephone number of the shop starts with 6. The telephone number of antop hill area in bombay will always start with a 4.
