Cream Centre
Along with neighbours New Yorkers, Revival and New York New York, Cream centre is one of the finest pure vegetarian restaurant which has been serving its clients for more then 20 years. It is situated 12 feet away from New Yorkers at Sukh Sagor Junction at Chowpatty.
Food
Cream Centre is best known for Choley-Bhatura. Choley is Chana Masala and Bhatura is a puri which is 8 inch in diameter. Even the paratha and paneer masala gravy is wonderful. Initially New Yorkers and Cream Centre had the same management. Few Years back they fell apart, so now cream centre has most of the food items from the new Yorkers menu. Sizzlers, Pizzas and Nachos are the items. However the best fare there is still the choley-bhatura. For someone who does not like Plain Chana Masala, they also have paneer choley which is nothing but the chana masala with little cubicles of paneer. Another specialty here is the huge Punjabi Samosa with the superb mint chutney. For Cold Coffee lovers they serve their cold coffee in huge steel glasses. They also served home made ice creams which were absolutely yummy. I do not know if they still do. Special Mention of the onion cubes and the red carrot pickle. Although I never even touch pickle, I always make an exception for the red carrot pickle of Cream Centre. It is a must.
Price
Though I do not know the exact price of every item, I can safely say that a meal of Choley-Bhatura(Or Paratha-Paneer Masala, Cold Coffee and A starter will cost Rs 150 - Rs 175 Per Head (All taxes inclusive). The price is little on the higher side but it is worth it.
Decor and Ambience
Cream Centre is a huge restaurant. The Non Air-conditioned section is on the lower storey and has a seating capacity of at least 100-120 people. The Air-conditioned section is on an upper storey and has a seating capacity of about 40-50 people. The Cream centre branch at Linking road is a 2 storey fully air-conditioned branch with seating capacity of about 80 people with a waiting room capacity of 20-30 people. The Decor of both the places is good although The Linking road branch is slightly better looks wise. The Crowd is mostly of Gujaratis and Marwaris from South Bombay. The Linking road branch has mostly local bandraites. Even with Pizza Hut and Revival coming next door, Cream Centre and New Yorkers have a very loyal clientele? On Weekends, public holidays and vacations you have to wait at least for 45 minutes to get a seat in any one of the restaurants. It is also relatively full on other days.
Serve Timing
The typical serve timing is anywhere between 15-20 minutes. It increases on weekends with the tremendous crowds and serpentine queues outside. Once again, as in New Yorkers, you have to virtually shout for water refills. Although they do home delivery through meals on wheels (Which is a service for home delivery from some south Bombay restaurants) I suggest the best place to have the food, is in the restaurant itself.
