BEWARE !! All M.S Members....

I am the first MS member to write a review on this topic. And I know this is going to be very beneficial specially for ADDICTED MOUTHSHUT MEMBERS!

Confused?

Well, I think all of you know sachin tendulkar. His tennis elbow?(remember!)

Now I will come to the main point.

Repetitive stress injury is caused when too much stress is placed on your joints and these can be any joints like elbow, knee, shoulder.almost any joint!

The term itself is very easy to understand.continuous routine work done in the same style causing strain on some specefic areas of the body can lead to so called repetitive stress injury.

Now you must be thinking why I pointed out’addicted MS members’.this is because we are constantly typing, clicking mouse. This CAN lead to repetitive stress injury in our finger or palm joint or even the elbow! Dont laugh I am serious.

Any action which is performed on a regular basis causes fatigue of a group of muscles and joint and can therefore lead to this condition.

It is a very painful condition and resembles arthritis of joint(but not that severe).

Some common examples can be:

Tennis elbow- Sachin is suffering from it just because he was putting extreme stress on his elbows to strike the balls. His typical style paid him off.

Golfers elbow- This is also similar but seen in golf sportsmen and effects the inside portion of the elbow instead of outside portion seen in tennis elbow.

Finger stiffness.to name a few.

(others cannot be explained as they are strict medical terminology.)

The signs and symptoms of this disorder:

> swelling over the involved area.

> tenderness on touching or pressing the swollen area.

> pain during function.

> estricted mobilily of that part.

> Redness(inflammation) over and around the effected site of injury.

Initially all these problems are minimal and they become serious gradually over a period of time, say 1 month to 6 months. At this point of time if you consult your doctor he can detect the cause on clinical and X-ray examination and can treat it successfully without any delay.

Steps in treatment:

  • Assuring the patient.

  • patient is asked to give rest to the part.

  • Instructions to put less strain on the part in future.like in case of knee problem he is asked not to carry heavy goods in hands but take them in a push trolly.so on.

  • Physiotherapy helps.

  • Special exercises to improve function and reduce strain.

  • cold water or ice packs over the joint helps to relieve inflammation.

  • Steroids can be prescribed to the patients which helps in reducing the inflammation.

  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents like aspirin are very helpful.

  • Intra-lesional(Injection directly into the disered area) steroids can be given in cases which respond poorly to other methods.

Prevention is always better than cure.My dear MS friends stop running behind MS points and chill out at a nearby shopping mall(or prove that you are Sachin’s greatest  admirer!) haha

Whatever.but take care!

One of my MS friends always says’This is the place where we stop thinking’.

All Yahoo messanger chatters and MS members are warned!
