Flashback:*When the first time I saw the teaser promo of Dev.D during the interval
of Fashion(Personally, it was the best thing that happened to me during the 3hr junk I was subjected to :D) I was immediately hooked to the song played out in the teaser.I could figure out that the same song was played in two different versions and loved the rock version whichstarts off as soon as Abhay Deol smashes the bottle against the wall.
Went home , waited few days until I could watch the teaser on youtube . WIthin few viewings I was singing along the https://lyrics.Nice.Cut to the arrival of ’09 and along with the release of online streaming of songs of Dev.D.Here’s my take on it :
1) Aankh Micholi(Amit Trivedi) :
This
songs sounds with some really trippy beats and some not so audible
english https://lyrics...and then AT starts out with his musical assault on
you.Really trippy song with some techno beats.Amit Trivedi has got a
"hatke" voice if I may say so.It really suits the tone of the songs he
chooses to sing. I especially like the part towards the end , it goes
like this :
yeh kaise kaise rulaye zindagi
oh aise aise nachaye zindagi
dav khele zindagi, yeh aise hi toh lete hain mazza mazza
tere jholi mein kushi hai, aake sirf bekasi hai, sazaaa
2) Dev Chanda Themes 1 and 2 :
Simple, sweet instrumental tune.Would be great fit for maybe opening titles or something like that.
3)Dhol Yaara Dhol(Shilpa Rao & Kshitij) :
Shilpa
rao sings this song with such honesty and uniqueness, it’s a treat to
listen.Along with complementry vocals of Kshitij.Loves the way she sings
Mann mein mere hoonk uthi hai
Koyal jaise kook uthi hai
I can listen to this song over and over again just because of these two lines. Beautiful Song, Beautfiul love duet.
4)**Dil mein Jaagi(Mani) :
* Personally one of my lesser fav. tracks on the album.Nice Piano orchestrated touch to the song , but not that impressive.
5)Duniya(Amit Trivedi) :
AT
is back behind the mic, and what a song this has turned out to
be.Absolute gem.When it starts out you may get a feeling of Chakkar
Ghumyo from Aamir but right then AT puts in the electronic bit and it’s
a completely different song altogether.Totally unique song in the sense
of it’s structure, vocals and https://lyrics.The drums bit and the , jheee jheee’
part are really catchy.One of the best songs in the album.
Yeh duniya badi gooal hai,
Hai iss mein kitne jhol.
6)Ek Hulchul Si(Joi Barua) :
Now it’s time for some nice guitars and soft rock kinda song.It’s the kinda song that’ll grow on you after each listen.
7)Emosanal Attyachaar - Brass Band Version (Harish Band, Band Masters Rangila and Raseela ) :
OK, now
you must be sitting under a rock or locked away in a prison cell if you
STILL haven’t listened to this song;the breakup song of the
year.Brilliant song right from the moment it starts off with
ek, do, teen, char......cheeeeeeeee
and then the brass band kicks in and vocalists takes over

Easily one of the most original songs to come out of bollywood in recent times.
9)Emosional Atyachar(Rock Version) (Bony Chakravorthy):
THE
song of the album, my personal favourite pick of the album, of the
year, of all times.Bony Chakravorthy totally pwns this song, along with
AT’s music of course. Songs starts off with some nice guitars and radio
type vocals , until the drums come marching in, with bony starting off
with

i was waiting for the chorus to kick in which I had heard in the
trailer , but that was not the case.I had to wait some more because
Amit Trivedi wants to give us something more, so here come the insanity

The
guitars, drums, vocals just prefect in this song.I can’t remember how
many times I must have heard this one in the past week.Loved the B word
at the end.Touching :D
10)Hiknaal (Labh Jajua):
Ok i’m
now gonan hurry up with the review , as this is a pretty darn
album...and some of my fav songs are still remaining.This one is a
okish punjabi song.
11)Maahi Mennu(Labh Jajua) :
Another
punjabi track but this ones has got some other music arrangements
also.Love the singing in this song and also the https://lyrics.Another good one
on the album.
12)Maahi Mennu(Sad Version)(Labh Jajua) :
Sad version of the song above.You can skip it, thou not a bad song by any means.
13)Nayan Terse(AT):
Amit
Trivedi has kept all the great songs for himself and more importantly
he know which songs suits his voice.This one starts off with an epic
hollywoodish touch to it along with sound-check kinda guitars unti Amit
croons Naayaaan Terse and then suddenly outta nowhere guitars come in
and this becomes a totally different song.Again beautiful lyrics to
this song.

Another gem added to this superb album, Personally I loved the ’Swah, Swah’ bit alot.Quite different.
14)Pardesi (Toshi):
This
album just doesn’t seem to stop amaze you .This one took quite a few
listen before it bowled me over.I tell you, this song has got to be the
coolest song of the year.Toshi has sung it with a very rustic touch and
AT has given a western kinda music to it.Great combination , and again
mindblowing lyrics, when was the last time you heard a line this in a
song:
Waqt ne kar daala bantaadhaar
Ib kai howega rey agge yaar
Man baawli baawli buchh sa laagey
Kabhi itt doley kabhi utt bhaagey
As I said before just for the way Toshi sings "Ib Kai howega rey agge yaar" I can listen to this track over and over.
