Why did I pay 250 bucks per ticket at a multiplex (over the counter, NOT black!) for this movie, and why do I suddenly feel so broke???
Why are Yashraj movie tickets double the normal prize?
Why the heck is Aishwarya Rai so annoying whenever she opens her mouth to speak?
What is a self proclaimed "cool and kaabil" thief doing, romancing a potentially hazardous bimbo?
Why ....these and many more irritable thoughts were going through my head when I was watching Dhoom 2. Guess that should tell you what I thought of the movie!
PLOT-
For those few that dont know, Dhoom 2 is about one thief "A" (Hrithik), who decides to inexplicably become a couple with a stupid thief Sunehri (Aishwarya Rai), who are both then chased all over the world by a zombie cop Jai (Abhishek), a bumbling, self -consciously "ghaati" cop (Uday Chopra), and a Baywatch cop (Bipasha). Thats the sum total of the plot.
CAST-
Hrithik is absolutely gorgeous, dances like a dream, and makes the most ridiculous stunts look somewhat convincing. Unfortunately, his character gets laboured with a love story and that is his downfall in the movie.
Abhishek is wasted.
Uday is ok to annoying, Given better dialogue, he might have been tolerable.
Bipasha looks great, acted ok, until SHE was laboured with the character of a bimbette twin sister..and that was her downfall!
Aishwarya dances well..looks ok (not as good as Bipasha), and then she decides to, like, open her mouth and say "funny guy" a zillion times..and the MOVIE came crashing to its decidedly unfunny end!
DIRECTION-
Was somewhat engaging for the first half hour...when the movie focussed on the thief "A" and his stunts....and then the director decided to introduce a love angle and ruin his own movie.
SONGS-
Only saved from the fate of utter mediocrity by some great choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant/Shiamak Dawar (Dhoom again, Crazy kiya re), and some brilliant dancers (Hrithik, and, to a lesser extent, Aishwarya).
MOST ENJOYABLE MOMENT OF THE MOVIE- As Ash is dancing on screen, a heckler from the audience shouted out, "Ab dancing bandh kar re, acting chaloo kar" !!!
MY LAST WORD- Only watch this movie if you are a huge Hrithik fan and cant get enough of his new golden, gorgeous avtaar. If you are an action fan, you are better off watching the latest Bond flick!
