Dishnet DSL - An Ongoing Living NightMare

I returned to India last year after spending 20 years in the US. Settled in India’s ’’Silicon Valley’’, Bangalore, to operate my business. Needed high speed connectivity and the only DSL connectivity that was there at that time was Dishnet. Subscribed to two connection lines last year. Non-refundable deposits were very high approx 12K Rs.

Since then, it’s been a living nightmare for me. For a 64KBPS speed they charge Rs. 2000 a month plus a ADSL modem rental of Rs. 1000. My monthly bill has been averaging Rs. 3150 with anything over 1GB of transfer attracting huge penalties. The connectivity charges are much more than in the USA even when converted to US $. I was paying only $45 a month with speeds of 1.44MBps.

The average percentage of DSL outages in my area is about 25-40% which means that in a 30-day month, you can expect the DSL link to work 3 weeks.

And Customer Service SUCKS!!! Big time. You can never reach them - either they dont answer the phone or are under-staffed or have way too many customer complaints or all of the above. They only thing they seem to be doing efficiently is disconnecting if your bill is late.

There are many other issues that I have problems with but I’m running out of space. One word of advise. If you are going in for 24-hour connectivity try Cable Modem or wait for Bharti to come to your area. Investing in Dishnet DSL connectivity is like sharing a double funeral. You lose your money and your sanity
