Oh?!!! I really love pet animals. I have brought up almost 7 cats right from their one month of age and I feel that one needs to be lucky to really get the pleasure from bringing up the pets. I am also equally very fond of dogs ? I?ve had a Lhasa Apso & a Mongrel which was a crossbreed of a country dog. The stories of these two dogs entering my home are unquestionably very interesting. For pet lovers, I am sure my review would be delightful?. Read on !!!
I?ve not dwelled in very big independent houses & my houses had been mostly confined to specific small areas of living in Flats. My parents used to be totally against bringing up pets because they had the usual fear of other residents complaining of pets? nuisances. When I was in my 7th standard, one night I heard a loud scary cry of a Cat somewhere but I was not able to locate it on an outward torch-light search.
The next morning, I could hear the same cry and I was rather shocked to see a very big cat in pure black colour with very healthy looks & bright grey eyes. I didn?t know if she was crying out of hunger & so since my mom had gone to her office, I poured some milk on a blue-colour plastic plate and my God, the cat seemed to be really very hungry?? it didn?t leave out even a small drop?.. it completely sucked the milk. From that day, until the end of my summer holidays, the same cat (which I used to call as ?Putty?) visited my house every day almost at the same time & my habit of pouring milk continued.
Since I was too young to realize it, I kept the same plastic plate along with the other vessels in the kitchen??.. One fine day when my parents found that there were some biscuits sticking on to that plate along with some dirty dried-up milk particles, they stringently asked me about it. Although I tried to hide the cat matter, I somehow revealed it out of fear. My God?.. I still remember, my parents blasted me like anything!!! Then, after the reopening of my school, although I was frequently remembering my ?putty?, I didn?t see it after that.
This was my first acquaintance with a PET. Then, one day when I was in my standard 9th, I saw a very tiny kitten lying on the street and out of courtesy brought it home. I was successful in convincing my parents too about it. But anyway, I have never seen such a clean animal. Every behaviour of a kitten & cat, is certainly appreciable. I have so far brought up 7 kittens & their names were too lovely?? viz., ?Poopoo?, ?Bajju?, ?Lakhu?, ?Shondu?, ?Cheenu?, ?Jeni? & ?Kuttu?. In fact out of these, the first 4 had been with me until the age of 4 right from their 25 days of age. The others had been in and out of my house.
Generally, from my observations, here are some interesting facts about kittens:
?Their behaviours are largely based on instincts ? they bite only when they wish to be left alone
?If they come out of their playing & try to scratch or bite you, it means they?ve got bored of their play-toys and certainly need some diversion immediately
?Always fond of sitting between legs of a person standing & sleeping on the Lap
?Could be easily trained to follow orders? just in about a month of age itself, they understand the basic commands like COME, GO etc. Is it not amazing?
?Extremely fond of playing with balls & endlessly watching moving objects
?Generally just a strict ?No? from their beloved Master would easily stop them
MY PET DOG :
The stories on my dogs could never be confined to a page. I possessed a Lhasa Apso (it is no more now) & its entry into my house is very interesting!!! My neighbour Nimmi bought this pup for Rs.1, 000/- from a pet stores & when it was about 45 days old, Nimmi had to go to her native place with her parents & they requested us to look after the pup for a period of one month and they would take it back from us on their return.
Right from the day one of Nimmi getting this pup, I had an eye on the Pup & more than Nimmi?s family I used to call the Pup and play more with her. The pup?s name was ?Trisha?. I became extremely happy to have the Pup in my house & it used to Loo all over the house & I took great care to clear its mess now and then, because I didn?t want my parents to get annoyed by its behaviour. I also found that Trisha had lot of tics & fleas all over her body and I took her to a pet salon several times for treatment.
Trisha was my real companion. She would not take her food if I happen to come home late & I avoided going on long tours leaving her at home. At some point of time, I even started feeling too gloomy in my college and then in my office because I was not with her. We both had developed a great loving for each other. I gave her an excellent training to sit, stand, run, shake hands, eat, drink, kiss a person?s legs, hands & face and a lot more. Many days I used to describe to her about my depressing times & I used to cry to her (when my parents were not around) as though she could sort out my problems.
If Trisha wasn?t well, I used to put aside all my other important and take her out to the doctor. Also, only I could give her a bath & she would strictly not allow anyone else to give her a bath. She had been with me for almost 7 years and 2 years ago, she developed some infection in her right leg which gradually spread on to her body (in spite of taking her to the doctor several times) & we were forced to admit her in a charitable pet hospital where she passed away.
My parents had kept the news of her death hidden from me for two days & the moment I heard about it, it was as though the entire world had stopped revolving around me & I was Crying ??. Crying??? Crying??.like anything. I never took my food properly for nearly two months and I felt really very sick without my Trisha at home. It was only due to my parents? continuous efforts, that I resumed back to normal!!!
Here are some of my useful tips for those who wish to get a new Pup to their home:
?First, remove the tics & fleas from the Pup?s body by using the pet powder sold and then by frequent bathing once in a week
?Take her to the Veterinarian as early as possible & it is required to first feed the Pup with medicine to remove the worms & parasites from the Pup?s stomach
?It is required to give six injections (at regular intervals) for your Puppy within her 1 year of age ? specially the initial vaccinations are very very important
?Always accompany your Pup with her toys and food when you propose to leave her alone at home (please do not tie her, there are possibilities of her going round and round and getting struck in the neck)
?When the Pup starts developing teeth, it will have an urge to bite whatever it comes across?.. so give your Pup some safe chewable toys sold in the pet-stores
?Once the Pup has completed 3 months, start giving her training to litter only on specific areas that you desire (this could be done using the liquid solution sold in the pet-stores). This training is very essential.
?Frequently massage your Pup gently with your fingers & allow her to wipe allowable parts of your body with her tongue, this would be very helpful when the Pup grows bigger
?Spend as much time as possible with your Pup during her initial learning days & this would give her lot of confidence in you!!!
