As the title sort of suggests, this is about the Macintosh version of Download.com.
It is truly a great site indeed. Download.com is a site from the CNET.com network which allows you to download hundreds of new applications for free, rate them with others and find more new software. Most software is full-featured demos, and more often than not quality shareware and freeware.
The Mac site seems to be updated every week, early in the week (around Monday or Tuesday, I think). They add new software to the list and allow you to search for more and more each week.
I have found some very useful software including...
LimeWire - a Macintosh Gnutella client to allow you to obtain files like MP3s etc.
Alarm Clock Pro - what a great way to wake up, with your favourite MP3 programmes.
iTunes - Yes, I discovered Apples latest gem, iTunes using the Mac section of Download.com.
Download.com provides you with a list of great alternative servers, just in case that the first choice doesnt work, and also provides a download rate, which will try to guess how long a download will take based on the speed of grabbing web pages. It may say 10 minutes at 56k so you can see how long it takes. Very handy!
You can also comment on downloads and rate them, so if you download something rubbish, then you can warn others not to bother.
If, like me your a Mac user and are looking for some other download libraries, try...
https://MacDownload.com - from the ZDNet Network
https://VersionTracker.com - the ULTIMATE Mac Download site, updated hourly with hundreds more applications a day. This is better than Download.com, but Download.com is still quite good...
https://macgamefiles.com - Great game files for the Macintosh platform.
