Oh, to have an imaginary friend.....

As a girl Lizzie, Phoebe Cates, had an imaginary friend whos name was Drop Dead Fred. Drop Dead Fred was always getting Lizzie into trouble, cutting off her hair while she slept, making a mess all over the table and many other horrid things. One day he went so far that Lizzie’s mother Polly, Marsha Mason, threatens to lock him up forever.

Seeing that Lizzie seemed to think that Drop Dead Fred lived in a Jack-in-the-Box Polly taped it shut and hid it in a cupboard, thus getting rid of the imaginary friend problem.    The movie starts with Lizzie all grown up about to break up with her husband Charles who cheats on Lizzie behind her back and is just a sleaze. Lizzie then moves back into her mothers house where she finds the taped up box, Lizzie opens it and releases the horror within! Drop Dead Fred follows Lizzie everywhere causing hilarious problems along the way.      Carrie Fischer, Star Wars, plays Lizzies confidant and friend.

Drop Dead Fred contains many amusing pieces of script such as;Fred: I can’t believe we left the party so soon. And there was so much wine to spit around the place. Elizabeth: I got upset. Fred: "I got upset." God, you’re so stupid. You never leave a party ’til the very very end. Elizabeth: Oh really? Fred: Yeah really. Elizabeth: Well what about Cinderella? Remember what happened with her? Fred: No I don’t remember what happened with her. I deliberately forgot all about her. She made me puke. I remember the ugly stepsisters, they were great.       It is a great movie, well worded script, and excellent characters.
