Im a wannabe Elvis movie starlet--who wouldnt? To shake a hip and pout a pout with the King himself? I grew up with a childish crush on Presley after watching Blue Hawaii as a 11 year old. First of all blue-water beaches...secondly a place like Hawaii (thats where I got my future honeymoon destination fixation;)) and most of all Presleys cute little sneer made my pre-pubscent knees tremble. I watched a couple of his movies since then thanks to VCRs and TNT (SIGH...why did that channel ever go off-air?). Heres a brief on the movies that I did see...I plan to start a VCD/DVD collection of the Elvis movies soon..so might be able to update with the ones that will not be mentioned in this review.
BLUE HAWAII: is about Chad Gates-a suave guy who returns from the Army (ahem...always liked men in the defence forces) to a crazy home consisting of an absolutely adorable yet totally irrritating mom (Angela LAnsbury) and a awfully cute dad and yes a very pretty girlfriend who works in a travel agency or something of the sorts. Chad is extremely happy to hang around and surf away with his beach buddies and girl but Dad dear wants sonny baby to work with him in his pineapple company. Chad decides to work as a guide and his first and probably last assignment is to guide a young school teacherwith a group of teenaged girls! Coupled with harmless flirts, disturbed family lives and a very irritated girlfriend, this movie is one of the best of Presleys movies....the songs are very catchy...remember Can;t help falling in Love? Thats one of the not-to-miss songs in the movie.
VIVA LAS VEGAS: a very striking feature of this movie is Elvis onscreen name--Lucky and his onscreen paramours name is Rusty!!! This movie would be a treat for F1 enthusiasts, I think. it revolves around Luckys determination to participate and beat a rival at the Grand Prix. He works as a waiter to collect money to buy a new engine for his car (with looks like that, no surprises if he ha a hat overfull with moolah, no?) He is successful in his endeavour and oils the heart of Rusty! Presley does a good rendition of Ray Charles Thats What Id say in this one.
Will continue the reviews on Elvis movies later...Movies filled with serenades and beautiful young, leggy women (check out https://swinginchicks.com for a write up on each Elvis-girl )---elvis, you can always be my Teddybear!
