I read Femina coz my wife brings home this glossy. In the 70’s/80’s Femina had a definitive meaningful content and style. The last few years or so the magazine has started to get the feel of some International Womens magazine, devoid of desi content. Ofcourse the contents are desi, but hey am I reading bout desi women lifestyles or am I reading bout desi women with western attitudes and lifestyles?
Read any 4 Femina issues and u need not read the 5th. The rest of the issues are a combo of the first 4.
The fashion pages are full of desi wimmen trying to look firangi, dress firangi. Even the Indian fabrics and clothing is nothing like what you see women in the streets wearing. For that matter, even interviews of models/stars/beauty queens are cliched stuff, quite pompous or silly. Same old questions same old answers.
The MISS INDIA FEMINA shows have been degraded to high tech tamasha. 10 celebreties as judges, who dont know much bout judging, computers placed in front of them that dont work, crass dancing shows, silly nincompoop Master of Ceremonies.
And the questions that the Judges ask the contestants! Hic hic hic.
Hey do I hear some mouthshut folks say ’’ I dont watch Femina Miss India shows no more.’’ ??
Yes, the present editor...her last page makes for sensible reading...as for the rest of the pages...skip it!
