Friends are Forever

"A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere. Before him I may think aloud."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am a member of this site from more than 3 years now and despite all the problems and controversies, I keep coming back again and again. The main reason is the friends I have made here. My online friends are special for me. I do not know who they are, I have not seen them, not met them, not spoken to them (except a few). Some of them do not even have their photos displayed, but yet they are all my friends and very special for me.

Every day, I feel something missing, if I do not meet my virtual friends, read their writings, comment on their writings, send them virtual gifts and interact with them. If someone had told me 10 years back, that I would have a lot of virtual friends, I would have laughed. But today, my virtual friends are as special for me (even more than) as my real friends.

And it is a honour for me to have met many of these virtual friends in person. I truly treasure the friendship of my virtual friends. Star status, RODs and FDs hold no importance to me, what makes my day special is to have my friends drop in to my writing and say hello.

On the occasion of Friendship day, I am wishing all my friends by dedicating this review to them.

(BTW : Do we need a friendship day to wish friends? All days are friendship days)

Here are my top five favourite Hindi songs on friendship:

  1. Yari Hain Iman Mera Yaar Meri Zindagi
Yaar ho bando se ye sabse badi hai bandagi

This classic, unforgettable ode to friendship is from the movie Zanjeer. Sung zestfully by Manna Dey, the music is scored by Kalyanji-Anandji and the song is written by Gulshan Bawra. The song is picturised on Pran who signs this song for his friend Amitabh Bachchan.

  1. Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge
    Todenge Dam Magar
    Tera Saath Na Chodenge

This is without doubt one of the most famous songs on dosti and friendship. This song is from the super hit movie Sholay. Sung by Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey, the song is picturised on the most famous filmi friends Jai and Veeru - Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra. The music is by Rahul Dev Burman and written by Anand Bakshi.

These lines from the song are my favourite:

Ae meri jeet teri jeet, teri haar meri haar Sun ae mere yaar
Tera gham mera gham, meri jaan teri jaan Aisa apna pyaar
Jaan pe bhi khelenge, tere liye le lenge
Sab se dushmani
Yeh dosti hum nahi chodenge

  1. Bane Chahe Dushman Zamana Hamara
    Salamat Rahe Dostana Hamara

This song from Dostana (the old one, not the gay one) is sung by the greatest duo of Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar and picturised on two stars (who were not friends) Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrugan Sinha. Music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and the song is written by Anand Bakshi

  1. Tere Jaise Yaar Kahan
    Kahan Aisa Yaarana
    Yaad Karegi Duniya
    Tera Mera Afsana

The song is from the aptly named movie Yaarana and is picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Neetu Singh. The sung is sung for Amit’s screen friend in the movie Amjad Khan. Sung by Kishore Kumar, the song has music by Rajesh Roshan and is written by Anjaan.

  1. Diye Jalte Hain Phool Khilte Hain
    Badi Mushkil Se Magar
    Duniya Me Dost Milte Hain

How true these lines are - finding a friend is so difficult!! This song is from the movie Namak Haram and picturised on Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. Sung by Kishore Kumar, music is by R D Burman and lyrics by Anand Bakshi

These are my five favourite friendship songs. Coincidentally, all five are picturised on Amitabh and 4 sung by Kishoreda. There are many friendships songs, but these five are my favourites.

And I dedicate each line of these songs to all my MS friends, with the wish that our friendship becomes stronger each day.

Here was my ode to friendship day.
