Hidden Treasure of Radio Revealed!

5 Best Radio Programs(Heard in the USA or online)

  1. This American Life presented by Ira Glass. Weekly hour shows that explores the randomness and spontaneity of Americans. Shows are usually divided into Acts that pertain to a certain topic, i.e.’The Cruelty of Children, ’’Fiasco, ’’Neighbors.’ Interviews are very candid and open, not at all’staged’ or rehearsed. I feel as if I’m listening to a group of friends talking about their lives and the happenings that occur to them. Best part: staff favorites as well as all other shows are available online at https://thisamericanlife.org

  2. Ron and Fez Featured on WNEW. This is the same station that had the whole St. Patrick’s Cathedral fiasco(those DJs were fired almost immediately). Ron, an overly heterosexual that always brings up his lady and his kids, is complimented by Fez, a’closeted homosexual.’ Running jokes include’Fezitorials’ when Fez gets on his soapbox and rants about the issue of the week(gubernatorial candidates, outrageous news, etc). The show has jumped around WNEWs timeslots, so check out the website at WNEW.com

This show contains adult oriented material at times.

  1. BBC World Broadcast. Originally available on AM/FM/Ham Radio formats in the US, currently BBC is only available during the Midnight to 5am slot on National Public Radio(AM/FM) in New York City. Check BBC.co.uk for more details.

  2. Loveline with Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew. very sexually explicit Do NOT be thrown off and disgusted by this show. Unembarrassed about sexual misadventures and problems, as well as psychological, abuse related, drug related, social dilemmas, . problems of any kind that you were afraid to ask about are answered on this show. Callers can tell Dr. Drew, who is board certified and a practicing physician, and Adam, who has seen and heard thousands of calls and is very knowledgable, their problems. Usually the problem is not what the called asked, but a deeper more important one that is psychological and reflective on the person. If problems are specific or physical; rashes, sores, STDs, pregnancy, etc. then the caller is directed to the correct type of doctor/facility/treatment they should consult. This is a serious show that does have humor, but deals with problems head on without beating’round the bush. Great for teenagers(and adults)who have questions and want the actual answers. The show does not condone or condemn pre marital sexual relations or abortion and remains apolitical. Check local listings or drdrew.com

  3. National Public Radio/College Radio. I know this isn’t a show, but the free format and disregard for commercialism and profits make these shows exclusively for those that love radio from those who love it. These labors of love are often the most’real’ and not there for shock value or ratings. They’re about real issues that matter, not the issues we’re told to care about. Apolitical and free form special interests, the shows presented on not for profit radio is a bevy of information, entertainment, and new perspectives. And as a college radio apprentice, let me tell you, it is for the love of radio that we go on the air everyday. Check npr.org as well as your local college station, or my college station whrw.org
