Deltora is a land of humans, magic and monsters. Seven Gems lie in the Belt of Deltora which protects Deltora from invasion by the Shadow Lord and keep the people safe. Diamond, Emerald, Lapis Lazuli, Topaz, Opal, Ruby and Amethyst. The Shadow Lord is evil and sends in his spies to spread suspician among the royal family. The Royal family must wear the belt constantly and keep it safe if they wish to keep their kingdom safe. Slowly their advisors, which have been infiltrated by the Shadow Lord, convince them that this is unwise and they lock it away in a tower where it will surely be safe. The Shadow Lord steals the belt and spreads the Gems all of the land to be guarded by seperate evil creatures. Lief’s parents used to serve the king and send Lief on a journey with an old palace guard named Barda to retrieve the Gems and restore peace to the land.
This book is about their journey into the Forests of Silence, a forest where no one who enters returns.
It is a sort of a young adult book but adults will like it as well.
This is a very imaginative series of books by Emily Rodda. Forests of Silence is the first book in the first series. There are three series’ altogether.
Very enjoyable.
