How can I rate a film, which is nothing short of a masterpiece? I have my own apprehensions but I would do it anyway. In short Richard Attenborough has created a movie, which would be remembered for years to come. What stands out in Gandhi is the effectiveness in its script and screenplay without tampering with history. The simple yet effective portrayals by all the characters.

Now to the film, well I need not tell anybody about the story (well it is just the history). It is the way its been taken that makes one sit up. Right from the first scene, Gandhiji being assassinated to its finale, its one breathtaking ride into the Life of the man who challenged everything in the name of humanity & non-violence. Every scene is a portrait in itself & credit should go to the directors of photography (Yep, 2 of them). They have captured everything from South Africa, to England and India beautifully.

The music by Ravi Shankar is sheer magic. But credit must also be given to the composers who helped him. The Western composition of ’’Raghupathi Raghav?, when the credit roll out after the film ends is truly spellbinding and soul stirring. Truly inspirational.

Well Richard Attenborough has made a film he would cherish for his lifetime. He has also the gratitude of Indian people for projecting the image of Mahatma, so wonderfully.

Well above all it?s the person who acts as the Mahatma who makes the difference. Can a director trust a first time actor for such a role just because he looked similar the great man? Well, Sir Richard did just that & Gave us the brilliant BEN KINGSLEY.

Well I cant compare any other actor who could have done such a convincing portrayal in his first film. His performance is beyond the veins of acting. He gives a performance of a lifetime. Well he should also thank God, FOR HE WAS GIVEN THE ROLE OF THE PERSON CLOSEST TO GOD. Ben Kingsley’s divine performance makes Gandhi a treasure, which can be cherished by movie lovers long after he’s gone just as we cherish the values of MAHATMA. GANDHI is a TIMELESS masterpiece that one should have in his collection for its sheer value of values. It is as NOBLE in its content as GANDHI himself. ---(Beyond Outstanding)
