What do I like about Mouthshut? Well, from humble beginnings it has held its own and continues to grow and improve. As more international members have joined there has been a blossoming of topics, so as to encompass more thanjust topics associated with India. I also feel that in becoming an international site, Mouthshut has paved the way to Indias acceptance as an equal in the world, not relegated to thepoor relation status it appeared to have for many years.
I do have one peeve and that is that I would like more information with regard to the payment options available to international submitters. When I joined they were talking about online gift vouchers as one of the means of redeeming points, yet I have never managed to find any real info as to gift vouchers with what companies, and what the points rate is for the redemption to each companys voucher. I recently received an email giving information about cash redemptions/exchange rates yet even this did not fully inform me, I did not feel. Do international receivers get local currency or is it in rupees and leaving us to attempt to exchange them?
I do like the camaraderie; people comment in the nicest of ways and there are some real characters on here. It is a nice coming together of so many different people.
I have also learned a lot about India from some of the posts. A geography lesson of far greater interest to me than some might think.
Firstly, my maternal grandfather was in India during the British occupation, before independence, so I have always felt a tie to the land - and I do not mean this to be offensive to anyone. Also, on my maternal grandmothers side, we have Romany gypsy in our ancestry, and recent research has concluded that the Rom language is actually based in Sanskrit and that the Rom people are now believed to have originated in Northern India.
I love Mouthshut, and I hope it carries on growing and improving.
