Do you know? If every body on this planet lived like the AVERAGE US citizen then we would need 8 more Earth’s. And most of us are trying to ape the US.
How to conserve earth? There are many options. A few I am penning down here.
If our only goal is to conserve earth for future generations then we have to go slow on GDP and other economic indicators.
1) Use your current vehicle as long as you can without replacing it or upgrading it.
This will save on pollution because each part of the bike/ car causes some pollution or the other. The faster you consume things the worse the earth is. So things that can long last should be stretched to the last bit of their use full life.
2) Don’t be a consumer, be a user. Don’t buy products you don’t need. The more you buy the more you pollute. - CD’s pollute, Plastics pollute, electronics pollute. batteries pollute, oils pollute. PC’s pollute, Laptops, cell phones & PDA’s pollute even more. Most of us think that electronics are polluting after their life is over. But most of us are unaware of the pollution they do even before they are put in one piece.
3) Consume things that are in the most natural state. Ex: coconut water instead of Pepsi. cause Pepsi comes in cans and bottles and the ads they make pay for some fat manager or star who contributes more towards pollution. Coconut water gives earnings to a farmer. that’s it. Nothing more and nothing less.
Avoid canned food. go for fresh food.
4) Build houses so that it conserves energy, not based on some style factor you have in mind.
5) Buy the appliances which consume the least amount of power. Single door refrigerators cost you 25-30% less on electricity bills compared to double door.
I can put up with the inconvenience of a single door. Would you for mother earth?
6) Remember one thing, The greed for better, faster and cheaper product is cause for all this pollution on this earth.
You always look at these three factors. Please also look at the polluting factor.
