Ive written this in response to acertain article which doesnt quite agree with what Im pretty sure about. Lets dispell a few wrong beliefs about helmets.
Helmets DO NOT reduce peripheral vision, at least not to any extent that you would notice. Any small loss will be automatically corrected by the rider himself by developing a habit of turning your head to check at corners! Which is a GOOD thing!
Helmets DO NOT reduce sound to any noticable extent.
Buy bikes with HELMET LOCKS to overcome thecumbersome problem, and dont leave the helmet out in the open during the monsoon season. Its that simple.
Imagine this: Youre going at 90+ and in a moving crash, if your head even touches the ground slightly, itll be SHEARED away before you can sayAAH
Helmets have tons of other uses on road, like protecting your eyes and face from airborn particles and bugs. Raining? Just push up the wind shield! Your helmet will get wet! SO WHAT! Youre supposed to wash it once in a while anyway. Thats like doing it a favour.
Heck, it even improves the aerodynamics of your ride, if youre into that sort of thing.
And a RACY Helmets looks AWESOME. Wearing helmets with bright colours even makes you more visible during the night, and hence helps other riders in avoiding you.
If you want proof of what Ive said, just google helmet safety and youll have all you need. A good helmet retails for less than Rs 500. Decide which you prefer: Your life or a few litres of petrol.
Dont be stupid! Wear a helmet. I DO!
