I remember watching the promos on Star Movies. It was without any doubt one of the most stylish Promos I have seen on TV.I remember the background groovy music. I remember JOhn Travolta. And I knew I had to watch Get Shorty.
And I wasnt dissapointed. The movie’s got Style, a GRoooooVy background score which flows with the cinematography making everything on screen look so COOL!!! To top it all its a great script too(my most imp factor). After all there r thousands of films with everything from style to music & but with a screwed up script it all becomes nothing.
The Plot is a bit complicated. All I would say is Travolta is a Gangstar who comes to Hollywood for his money, but stays on with the dream of producing a film. He hooks up with a frustrated, unsuccessful Scriptwriter played brilliantly by Gene Hackman(one of his best I have seen) who has to deal with Delroy Lindo(producer cum gangstar) & the chain goes on. Then theres the beautiful Rene Russo. Not to forget Danny Divito in a hilarious turn as a Hollywood Star.
Get Shorty is so funny and smart and enjoyable and entertaining. And John Travolta is so cool! I can’t put it in plainer terms. If you look up the definition of cool in the dictionary, you will find a picture of John Travolta from this movie.
Then it has so many cool scenes, the best being Travolta ’’teaching’’ DeVito’s character how to ’’look’’ like a gangster (’’Look at me...’’). Its funny funny funny. Then theres the dude who is there in Snatch also(Never go to england). He just explodes everytime he is there on screen.
The look of the film clearly compliments the film. The colours are just right. The director Barry Sonnenfeld must be given credit for everything esp for giving Travolta such a perfect role post-Pulp Fiction.
If you havnt seen this flick -You missed something really COOL. Rent it tonite.
