GO for it

Its was being touted as the PULP FICTION for the teens. And theres truth to it.

GO was one of the movies which I enjoyed most not ’coz its one hell of a movie but because I didnt expect so much from it. Its like finding a 50 bucks note in ur shirt pocket which u had forgotten about. GO revolves around three parallel stories, all of which unfold on the same night. It’s a film of coincidences.

The film opens in a 24-hour supermarket where Ronna (Sarah Polley) and Claire (Katie Holmes), two checkout girls, and their colleague, a Brit dude - Simon, who sells drugs by the side are introduced. It’s Christmas time and Ronna reluctantly agrees to work Simon’s shift so he can take off to Las Vegas for a quick holiday with some of his buddies. She does so only ’coz she needs the money desperately as she has to pay her rent by christmas night. It’s while working his shift, Ronna meets Adam and Zack (Jay Mohr), stars of a popular cop show (as well as being an off-screen gay couple) who have come to the store looking for Simon, hoping to buy drugs from him. What she doesn’t know is that Adam and Zach, already busted for possession, have been forced by one hell of a ’’twisted’’ cop Burke (William Fichtner) into going undercover. Burke’s got a equally ’’twisted wife(Ally McBeal’s Jane Krakowsk).

Then GO takes off in three different directions, as it follows Ronna to Todd’s(the drug peddler) apartment, then Simon to Las Vegas with his 3 other friends (this is the best part) and the third section follows Adam and Zach to Burke’s house for dinner.

The one night of GO takes us through a drug deal gone bad, a rave party with kids desperate for Ecstasy(a neat scene), female lap dancing, accidents , a wild joyride in Vegas with Simon & his gang, some shootings & car chase thrown in & some very funny gay allusions.

The first section is the drug deal gone bad & how Ronna cleverly deals with it & comes out clean. Timothy Olyphant as Todd the drug dealer is cool & convincing.

My fav part was the second part where Simon and his three friends travel to Vegas for gambling, drinking, and sex. Taye Diggs is one of them & plays real cool here. Theres a LAP DANCE gone wrong , a car chase, gambling & references to Tantric sex.

The third section shows the world of Zack and Adam. its has some hilarous scenes when they go to the cop Burke’s house for dinner.

Violent, funny and with everything happening at breathtaking pace, this is unlike any Teen movie u have ever seen. The directing is top class. The Ecstasy trips of Ronnas friend were ultra cool (MACARENA). The acting is top class. Naming any one guy would be unfair to the rest.

The filmmaking style is of the PULP FICTION school of filmaking. But its the first movie since Pulp Fiction to get it all right. The first Offspring of PULP FICTION.

Certainly one of the coolest films of 90’s.
