Yercaud Trip - Stay at Hotel Grand Palace

I had gone to Yercaud on May 1st 2009 for our first wedding anniversary. We drove from Bangalore to Yercaud on May 1st. It took about 4 hrs by car and we reached there around 1pm. We had gone in for the suite room as we did not get any vacancy for the normal room(even though we tried booking 3 weeks back). I guess it was a long weekend and the peak season was one of the reasons for shortage of rooms in Yercaud. We paid 4100 per room per night for the same. We stayed for 2 nights.

Now coming to the hotel, the view of the hotel was pretty good. It stood on the top of the hill overlooking the lake on one side and silent valley on the other. The ambience of the hotel too seemed good. After filling out details at reception we soon checked in to the room.

The suite was pretty good and spacious. The positive points were the view was too good. We could see the valley as well as the party place outside where camp fires occur. The room was clean and all the facilities were present as in good hotels. They had a good mini refrigerator and a Sony LCD Bravia TV. The location too was great. It was near the lake. The road to the hotel too was ok as it was not overcrowded like the road to many other hotels. There was a lot of peace in the location.

Now coming to the negative points, there was no A/C. It was an air blower. It only had the heat option. There was fan too, but May is a hot month and it would have been great if the A/c was provided. Secondly, they could have provided bath tub. There was just a bucket and mug, which did not sound appealing to me. I guess water supply issue is a prime concern for the hotels in that area. Thirdly there were frequent power cuts on the second day of our stay. The power goes off and they had to manually switch over to the inverter. They did not have the device which was sort of automatic switch over so that the guests don’t feel the heat.

Despite all these the stay was comfortable. The room service was excellent. The food and drinks were good too and the price is reasonable considering it is a 3 star property. WE did not use the restaurant and bar much as we preferred room service. The restaurant could have been a bit cleaner though. In the evening they used to light bon fires in the garden area that overlooked the hills.
