I have always been a SLB fan right from Khamoshi which was very well made..So I was eagerly waiting for this movie and I knew what to expect from his movies..
A visual treat and a roller coaster of emotions and something to ponder about at the end. Well, my expectations were more than met after watching the movie..
This movie is about how a human being can choose to live his life and whether to end one s life( or suffering?) after a gracefull living is an option at all...Ethan Mascerenhas is a succssful magician who meets with an accident and suffers from quadriplegia.
He is nursed by sophia for 12 long years who does her duty with utmost love and sincereity. Inspite of the disability, Ethan lives a life of content and brings happiness into the lives of others through a radio show..
Life changes for him when he comes to know that his health is deteriorating....He applies for the option of EUTHANASIA. What happens to the plea is the rest of the story...
How does this movie stand apart?
1) Brilliant potrayal of emotions--Be it the scene wherein Ethan is unable to ward off the fly off his nose or the raindrops falling from the roof in the night when there s nobody around or the scare-crow in the fields and the children playing on the road---> all portraying the helplessness and the immense suffering hes undergoing.
The duty bound nurse showing her immense love for the patient and sacrificing her personal life for his sake. The spirit with which Ethan had lived for 12 long years and brought smiles into the life of many in spite of the disability..
2) It is a visual treat.
3) It is definitely thought provoking--Why cant a human being who has lived his entire life with dignity choose when to end his life when he can no more live a worthy life?
Indeed, that is the concept of survival and evolution. Yes, many might argue against this. But SLB has a point in it.
4) Brilliant performances by Hrithik and Aishwarya.
5) Music is brilliant. Yes, its not hip-hop. But all songs are very melodious and it keeps you enthralled with repeated listening.
This movie may be a box-office failure, but its one in a million movie. Majority of the Indian audience still dont admire well made movies.
Alas, we are still in an era wherein masala movies like Dabangg or hip hop songs like Sheila ki jawani make a mark( no offence to these), but well made movies like GUZAARISH have no takers at all...
