The Day After

The morning after was the worst when I was hung over(reason why I quit). The birds singing outside the windows sounding like nuclear-powered vultures screeching through loud speakers.

And the big question is: What can you do about it? Unfortunately, not a whole lot. There is no one thing that cures a hangover except time. But there are a few things you can do to help the headache, nausea, and fatigue.

I drank a lot of water the next day and didn’t know why I was so thirsty. I now know that alcohol causes dehydration of your body cells. Drinking plenty of water before you go to bed and again when you get up the morning after helps. Fruit juice is also good because it contains a form of sugar which helps the body burn alcohol faster. Even sports drinks are really good. And for those pounding headaches, I found that aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen work great. But you don’t want to take anything stronger because with more potent pain relievers, you run the risk of habituation, and you don’t want the first problem to start another problem. I read in a book for those who would like an Organic pain reliever, that willow bark works just like an aspirin, except you chew it. And for those who still think that coffee sober’s people up, well it does not! However, a couple of cups can do a great deal to relieve the headaches. But don’t drink to much. You don’t need coffee jitters on top of the alcohol jitters.

The best and only foolproof cure for a hangover, of course, is 24 hours. Treat your symptoms as best you can, and let time heal the rest!
