I was on the lookout for a broadband connection in July/Aug in Hyderabad. I had initially decided on going with BSNL. But I was told that they have exhausted the ports on the switch at my exchange, and that it would be a couple of months befor they can provide new connections.
Then, I browsed the internet for a service provider, and contacted Airtel, Hatway and Sify in that order. I received a reply from Airtel in an hour stating that they do not provide the service in our area. Then the Hathway guy called and explained the packages and agreed to meet me at my home at 20:00. BTW, SIFY is yet to respond to the internet request !
I was delayed at office, and I called up the Hathway guy to either continue waiting or reschedule the appointment. The guy agreed to wait and I was finally able to make it home at 21:00.
Until then, my experience with them was quite good. I thought that they were quite courteous, patient, responsive and above all professional.
Packages were explained, after which I opted for a 6 months package and made a payment to him. A promise was made that the connection would be provided within 48 hours. I agreed.
After about a week, a guy turned up at my place and placed a huge roll of cable and told that someone will be getting in touch with me.
After another week, I lost my patience and spoke to the Hathway chaps. But no help was forthcoming. It was frustrating to speak to a CSE, and then to the supervisor and then to the manager with no specific date being mentioned for installation.
I was running out of patience, and at the end BSNL opened up further ports for new connection, and I have subscribed to that service.
I am yet to receive my money back from Hathway, and any phone calls does not route me to a pertinent person, nor do any one get in touch with me about this. And of course the big cable roll is still lying around. My doggy loves it though.
My suggestion is that do not take Hathway’s service in Hyderabad (especially Begumpet, Brahmanwadi etc). Be wary of the marketing agent named Srinivas, Supervisor named Raghu and Technical person named Kumaresan. They are con agents.
