First upon thanks to ’Mouthshut’ for giving us opportunity to share our views. It really gives good idea about bike before u go for it.
You may find so many people who will ask you to go for Splendor or any Hero Honda product blindly but if you are looking for Splendor+ then be careful, first check whether it suites to your driving style, location in which you drive and your attitude. Sp+ has very reliable and smooth engine (that’s the reason people prefer this bike) but is this only thing you require to drive a bike?
Weight of the bike:
Sp+ is too light in weight, a small breeze can push you off road (this happens quite often while driving SP+). Imagine u r on a highway and a lorry is passing through, suddenly wind blows and you start loosing control on a bike. At that time it’s very difficult to predict as from which direction wind is coming, at which direction u r trying to push the bike and finally at which direction your bike is moving. Good chance is u r going to smash on lorry. It’s really hectic to keep your bike pushing all the time to keep it on a same lane. And while taking turn you need slow down till second gear, take a turn, and then again speed up.
Design:
SP+ is taller as compare to its length. Height should have been less and length needs to be stretched. Due to its design it’s very difficult to take sharp turn, u can’t lean while taking turn else rear tyer looses the grip on road. Road grip is major issue with SP+. Tight breaks, sharp turns are prohibited. if you like to drive fast, over take dumb slow movers, and disappear on road like Zip Zap Zoom then SP+ say go to hell I will go as per my wish. If your Speedo meter is touching 60+ and u put sudden breaks then be sure that either you are going to kill some one, or you will kill yourself bcoz this bike skids like hell.
Recommendation:
I don’t recommend SP+ if u drives above 45 kmph, bcoz above 45 you don’t drive this bike, bike drives you and you know where it will end. SP+ is good for those who want good engine and mileage. But you think on your own and deside as what is more important, is it just mileage or comfortable riding, excellent handling, reliability and pick up.
But if you have already brought it and facing the same degree of difficulties which I’m facing then I would suggest making some modifications in it. As for better control I have changed the handle to smaller one and changed rear tyer to heavy and broader one ( CBZ’s). Though you lean forward bcoz of smaller handle, your air resistance is less and broad tyer helps to have steady drive. The only good thing about SP+ is its engine starts in first kick which was a major problem for my earlier bike ( RX 135 ).
