Hogenakkal, India's Niagara

Hogenakkal, the so called India’s Niagara is a water fall on river Kaveri in Dharmapuri district of TamilNadu. It is only 175Km from Bangalore, you can take Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri-Hogenakkal roure, the roads are in excellent condition.

Once you reach there, you have to bargain with the coracle(small boat made of bamboo) people to get a good deal. The official rate is Rs.50 but for a 3hrs ride they charge Rs.100 per head, you can reduce this price if you have good bargaining skills. The coracle guy takes you very near to the water falls, the water may fall on you, it will be a thrilling experience. Then a ride through the river, you can see only smoking rocks(meaning of Hogenakkal) on both sides. You can take a bath in the river if you want and you can have fresh water fish there itself. There are few more places like crocodile park, hanging bridge, you can enjoy a full day with your family or friends.

Note: In summer, the place will be too crowded, also it will be too hot. You can see food and plastic waste everywhere on the island. Best time to visit is just after monsoon but if you want to enjoy the boat ride, summer is also a good option.
