I bought an HP nx6110 last month and Id like to share my experience with you. This is one of the many notebooks now available in India with a sub 35000 price tag, and the best part is - it doesnt compromise on features. Features - Intel 915 GM chipset motherboard (GMA 900) (One of the best mbds)Intel Celeron 1.4 Gz Processor (Good enough for day to day work, I use mine for software development)256 MB standard (I had mine upgraded to 512 MB)40 GB HDDDVD combo15 TFT display (1024 X 768 max)Integrated sound (Not the best, but not bad either)Integrated modem (Havent tried this yet...)10/100 LAN (Broadcom) 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi (Broadcom)A very comfortable touchpad with vertical scrollAnd the best part - It doesnt come with windows ! (Linux geeks, this ones for you...!)I use the LAN and the wifi everyday, and so far Im happy with the performance. The battery (6-cell Lion) lasts around 2 - 2:30 hrs. The price ? I bought it for 33000/- (+1800 for the additional RAM) in Pune, all taxes inclusive. Now the problems :For windows users - only 1 teeny weeny problem. The repeat rate of the keyboard is very low. So its very irritating to type and I havent found any way of making it faster.Linux geeks, read on : Interestingly, the keyboard problem is absent to some extent in linux. The problem persists on the text consoles (tty1-tty6) but works fine under X. Broadcom has not released drivers for the wifi card, the only currently available option to get it to work is using ndiswrapper. Installing ndiswrapper is a non-trivial exercise, depending on the distro you are using (Usually requires compiling from source). I had SuSE 9.3 pro on this notebook and almost everything worked fine. The wifi worked fine most of the time, but the driver crashed occasionally requiring an ifup, (nothing major though). Now however, Ive installed Ubuntu 5.10 and this distro simply rocks. Everything just works out of the box - wifi works after a simple ndiswrapper command. The modem requires a little more but even that works satisfactorily. All in all, a very very nice buy, go for it. I do not know of any other models in this price range offering all these features. Ya, Acer has TM-2412 but its battery time is pathetic - about 1-1:30 hrs, and its slower than the nx although they use similar motherboards and the same processor. Ive actually kept them side by side and compared their speeds. The nx beats TM-2412 any day. Hope this review helped. Get back to me in case of doubts.
