Hi there !! Since I completed my HSC way back(not 2long) in MArch2003, thanks to my percentage, I got a chance to be a student of this very good rather the 2nd best commerce college in Mumbai. I love this college and its various aspects.

HR is located in the heart of Mumbai’s TOWN area. Situated at 123 Dinshaw Vaccha Road, its just a 4minutes walk from Churchgate station exactly opposite SOTC at Vaswani Mansion. KC college is adjacent to my college.

HR is famed as the in Mumbai rivalled only be Podar, Matunga. It is a sindhi minority college managed by the Hyderabad(Sind) National Collegiate Board started in 1960 having been awarded A grade from NAAC.

HR is a very compact college based in a very compact campus. There are 5 floors in all to the college, the sixth being the terrace which houses the AD-office(for the Advertising vocational batch). On the ground floor, is a beautiful walkway with pictures to the left. The office, the computer Lab(cybercafe)[the otherone is in the basement], and the gymnasium are set side by side. The office has been beautifully renovated and the famous is just at the back side of the campus on the ground floor. The Chinese dishes are yummy, add-ons include the PAVBHAJI, Idli, Dosa counter and so on...... Moderately priced btw Rs.10-Rs.45 depending on what u take. Excellent coupon system to avoid misappropriation of funds. On the first floor lies the Principal’s room, the mini-conference room and the Library. Probably one of the best college libraries, quite compact-includes an airconditioned reading room(mostly its aircooled rather than airconditioned). The staff is helpful, and there is also a language library(language improvement devices like linguaphone are also kept). Second floor houses the teachers’ room. Rest of the floors house the different classes. There is also a mini-canteen on the 6th floor for the BBI and the BFA and the BMS people. On the fifth floor is the CONFERENCE ROOM-A.C.(always). Lift usage for the students is not allowed except if u have a pass(issued under strict circmstances by select professors). So its heave-pant-hushahh-climb to the higher floors. Campus is a BIG absence.

Faculty at HR is great. Not only they are affluent(exceptions are there), they know much of the things they are specialised in, and very helpful. Good professors...... Visiting faculty also adds liveliness to the air. Recently, the college has roped in some M.Com students to teach, who are young and creative. Most of the faculty at HR is world-certified(recd awards from foreign bodies), which adds to their charm. The principal of our college Prof. Dr.Indu Shahani is a charismatic person with a great personality. She defies the ’stereotyped’ Principal figure ! Proud to be her student.

Much of the crowd is from South Mumbai, the other major group from the Western suburbs and a small amount from the Central suburbs and Navi Mumbai. Crowd at HR is decent, modest...... No one is ZHAGRIMAGRI type. This is COOL ! My experience at HR has been great. There are MANY EXTRACURRICULAR GROUPS IN THE COLLEGE which always keep the atmosphere abuzz with programmes and other activities. Being a part of such groups gives one a view of being ’seen’ in the college....... If u aren’t a part, still its a worthwhile experience.

The new rule states 75% compulsory attendance, but it is hardly popular amongst the students. For the first lecture(S.Y.B.Com-Degree) starting at 7.10am, there are a max of 10-15 students out of 150-160 students per class.

what I dont like - Nothing as such, except some of the office staff.... They tend to get very grumpy sometimes. for no apparent reason... Lecs starting so early as 7.10am. Its hard to reach there from places like Dombivili and Ulhasnagar.(i live in the first and my friend at UNR).

Aftab Shivdasani is one of the more famous alumnis’.
