Terrific value Android smartphone from HTC

I bought this phone from Flipkart after checking out all the eCommerce websites. This phone on paper had all the features and value I was looking for. In the last 3 months I can say that the phone has delivered.

I upgraded from a Nokia so this was my first capacitive touchscreen. It also has a 2.2 Android, so you have a window open for any new apps from the Marketplace. The other features it has are 5MP camera, decent pre-loaded apps, WiFi, bluetooth, etc.

I have also just upgraded to a 3G plan from Airtel, and that seems to have speeded up access even better.

The Great things: The great stuff about this phone? It looks good, is small and light, and handles phone calls well. No complaints from friends about missed calls. The camera is good(took a little learning to get used to it though); display screen is bright; most auto settings are fine so you are up and running fast. Music plays well, and the 2GB card they gave free with the phone is sufficient for me so far.

I also love the design of the integrated data chord/ charger. With a single 1m chord, we can charge from a point or laptop; sync and use for tethering(explained below).

The Medium things: I have downloaded apps for Word/ Excel/ PPT type use, but need to pay to enable editing. The software for the desktop does not come with the phone, one has to download it - 100MB to desktop to be able to sync. The Contacts application is not the greatest. While it does sync with FaceBook and my old mobile, the editing and linking of contacts is clunky. Navigation and search are average.

The Bad: Only problem was once when I lost some contacts from my address book while syncing. Got these back, but I was tense for a while. Also, I have still not been able to set up my email on the phone, it keeps giving an error.

For protection, I also bought a Silicone cover from Flipkart, which fits snugly on the WildFire. Rs 200.

The best feature I discovered was mobile tethering - while traveling, I was able to connect the mobile to my laptop and utilize my unlimited 2G data plan for internet on the laptop. The wi-fi hotspot feature is also super - I can use the mobile for internet and browse on the laptop through wi-fi.

I have also downloaded 2-3 games, like Angry Birds on this. Rendering is not bad, but here I felt that a faster processor would have helped. The Google Voice app is interesting for search also.

As of now this device is a mobile phone, camera, morning alarm, calendar, internet browser, weather indicator, music player, social networking access, maps and GPS help, SMS, stocks access, bank access, and NGPay  for shopping access device. Whew.
