Today, I visited an IDBI bank branch in Pune to open a savings a/c with them as they offer best FD rates.
But surprised to know from their bank officials that (personal visit), I MUST have an existing bank a/c with any bank to open an a/c with them !!! Surprised ? Yes you heard it correct.
You can not open an IDBI savings a/c if you do not have any existing bank a/c with any bank. The reason is that, for the initial a/c opening amount of Rs 1, 000/-, you HAVE TO give a cheque. Other mode of payment is NOT acceptable to them, not even cash, DD, etc. also even if an existing a/c holder introduce me will not work !!!
Being a same PSU bank, I can open a saving a/c with biggest bank SBI with proper documents. They do not need that you have to have an bank a/c already. But I do not understand the rule/reason implemented by IDBI bank.
EDIT: After I made an online complaint, I got a direct communication from the branch manager. He was gentle and polite and offered me to visit him personally and to have a cup of coffee !!! Also offered me to open the a/c with cash deposit. That’s pretty good service from a PSU bank.
