?Naazukee uss ke lab kee kya kahiye PaNkhaRee ik gulaab kee see hai??
Meet Meer, The Poet:
Meer Taki Meer (Real name: Mohammad Taqi)(1722-1810) is undisputedly the greatest poet of Urdu Literature and every poet, including Mirza Ghalib have acknowledged his greatness. Till date his creations never fail to play on the harp of the listener?s hearts.
Born in Agra somewhere in 1722 in the Sufi Community. Meer?s work started in Agra at a tender age and spread all over till Lucknow and beyond, carving it?s niche in every heart it touched!
Thamte thamte thamenge aansu, rona hai?kuch hansi nahi hai
Meer?s creations touch the blooming of a bud to the mirthful laughter of little children to the many threads in the tapestry of emotions?framed in time! Some of my favourites in Meer?s works include Be-KHudee le ga’’ee kahaaN ham ko and Hastee apnee Hubaab kee see hai
Meet Pankaj Udhas:
Pankaj Udhas’’s name itself spells pioneer of the change of scenario for Ghazals as we know it now. He arrived at a time when ghazals were losing their appeal among the masses, except of course, the few strong filmi ghazal tracks in those days. I would like to mention something that I had read somewhere once because I totally agree with it. So, lemme reproduce it here for your eyes: ?His beautiful voice, combined with good lyrics and melodious music is capable of making anyone fall in love, with ghazals, again and again.
About this Album: This album strives to throw light on a few timeless creations of the poet, Meer saab.

The Tracks:
1.Meer Introduction Brij Bhushan:
I really have to thank them for including this because I admit that I was unaware about this great poet. Having listened to this recital in Brij Bhushan?s voice sure made me take note and ignited my curiosity to look up other works of this great Poet. So, now we?re introduced to Meer, The Poet the remaining album invites us to wander into his thoughts and creations!
2.Aarzoo:
Aarzuen hazaar rakhte hain To bhi hum dil ko maar rakhte hain
Love someone? Can?t disclose? Or can?t give up? : ) This rendition says it all. The lines simply put forth a person?s undying love and at the same time says,
?Phir bhi karte hain meer Saahab Ishq Hain jawaan ikhtiyaar rakhte hain? <* Ikhtiyaar=Kaabu>
3.Rafta Rafta:
I simply love this one. A fast track compared to a few other tracks and the music is foot tapping. I was in awe of the difference in styles of renditions in Pankaj Udhas?s sweet voice, especially after listening to Aarzoo and then switching over to this faster piece.
Zaalim ye kya nikaali raftaar rafta rafta Har chaal par chalegi talwaar rafta rafta
4.Main nashe mein hoon:
Though you may call this one as one of his typical drunkard-lovers? songs (courtesy, the line: Main khush hoon usi shehar se maikhaana jahaan ho), I?d still say that It?s a Beautiful, hummable number any day!!
Yaaron, mujhe muvaaf rakho, main nashe mein hoon!
Ab do to jaam khaali hi do, main nashe mein hoon.
Naazuk mijaaz aap qayamat hain ?Meer ji? Jo sheesha mere muh na lago,
main nashe mein hoon!
5.Bekhudi:
Bekali (means: bechaini), Bekhudi kuch aaj nahi Ek muddat se vo mijaaz nahi Humne apni see kee bahut lekin Marz-e-ishq ka ilaaj nahi!
Heard this and my heart?s instant reaction was, ?Wah! Wah!? : ) The insanity of Love yet, the undying hope that Love will find it?s way into his/her heart someday soon?this song says it all!
Rote firte hain saari saari raat, ab yehi rozgaar hai apna!
6.Dil kee Taihaki:
The song speaks of the deep-rooted hidden desires of the heart in love. This is a very slow number and I particularly don?t enjoy it very much for two reasons: too slow & the lyrics push me into depression at times. So, I usually skip this one if I can. This is one among the longest renditions of the album lasting for 8mins 35sec.
Hijr ne jee hi maara hamara, kya kahiye kya mushkil hai
Uss se juda rehna hota hai, jisse hame hai pyaar bahut!
7.Aalam Aalam:
Gham raha jab tak ke, dam mein dam raha
Dil ke jaane ka nihaayat gham raha
Mere rone ki haqeeqat jismein thi Ek muddat tak
who kaagaz namm raha!
The opening lines itself tug at my heart and moistens my eyes. The song is a slow, soulful rendition. Worth listening! However, I wish it wouldn?t make me wanna cry like this. Yet again an 8minutes, 26second long rendition, the second longest song of the album. However, the lyrics are commendable.
8.Dadr hai khud:
When was Love not related to pain? Never! So, he finally said the word in this song and here we have a beautiful paradoxical lyrics to go with this semi-fast number that says:
Dard hi khud hai khud dawa hai ishq
9.Sab Tadbeerein:
Ulti padh gayi sab tadbeerein,
kuch na dawa ne kaam kiya?. <TADBEER =’’koshish’’>
Dekha is beemari-e-dil ne, aakhir kaam tamaan kiya
Why do we fall in love when the returns are in tears? Why? Well, no doubt Love comes with a sweet pain. So what? That won?t stop me from falling in love again-and-again! : ) This song sings of this facet of Love and it?s a slow number for some soft listening.
10.Kaash ke Dil:
Hum jaante toh Ishq na karte kisi ke saath
le jaate dil ko khaak mein is aarzu ke saath
The poet Meer wishes that nobody falls in Love but, of course oxymoronically! It brings out the tears of a broken-heart of a one-sided or failed love. He wishes that there were 2 hearts and says,
Kaash pee jaya hi karte ashq ko daag dil par ke to dhote ishq mein!
Kaash ke dil do toh hote Ishq mein Ek rehta, ek khote Ishq mein? Kaash!
