The ad that has been framed by the Government of India to promote its achievements comes as a double fruit in a single hit! it also serves as a campaign of the NDA alliance for the upcoming elections. Though it evokes a very confident feeling while watching the ad, if we sit for five minutes after the ad and think, the picture will be a lot more murkier than it has been said in the ad!
Emotions and feelings of confidence have to sustain for long and perception alone is not enough, but what is wanted is real development. Some of my observations:
1) Number of mobile phones may not at all be a point used for the ad. The number of mobile connections may have grown well over 150% last year, but the quality has gone down by more than that percent and still, India has one of the lowest telecommunication penetration levels that may not be advertised as an achievement!
2) Call centres being set up in our cities is NOT AT ALL an achievement. The west uses our countries to do all low-value jobs while retaining all high-value jobs with itself. Calling India a services giant and software power house is absurd!
3) But, the move of the centre to lay highways ofworld standards(as advertised) is a good one and is something to be advertised.
4) The ad is really glittering, but one has to wait and see if we reap some gold out of it!
5) The government could also advertise what plans it has for the future, as we can record that ad and then publish it across all media, if the government fails to execute what it advertises.
Overall, only ad firms, media houses have reaped the benefit and people may just have had some good feeling while watching the ad. Its long since we really feelIndian Shining but I hope India will someday SHINE!
