Indian Idle

Yet another edition of Indian Idol is on the air. Once again, we have the tons of people coming in to try out and hope to become the idol.

The hype, the advertisements, bombarded all thro the world cup matches, have paid off, and we have scores of untalented people trying to make it big, much to the dismay of the watching audience.

Hussein and Mini are adding zing as the presenters of this show, with their zippy presentation.. Good. Now , lets welcome you to the judges of the show. We have Javed Akhtar, Udit Narayan, Alisha Chinoy & Anu Malik. (Sometime or the other we will watch each one fighting with the other, shown in small capsules to garner interest).I actually feel quite sorry for them. Why? Because of the scores of untalented people they have to endure on the selection process. I have seen most of the episodes shown so far, and I am amazed at the attitude of those people who are clueless about music, and yet are so upset at being told the truth, that they don’t have it in them. ( That is the understatement of the decade).

The other day, there was trhis guy who was not upto the mark.  But on being told so, he makes a statement about giving up singing for ever. Man, did he think they would break down and take him on? Jeez! The nerve of the person. And then there are those, who argue relentlessly after a decision.

Different kinds of weirdo’s come here, some I guess just come to be featured on TV. They don’t mind playing the fool, since they feel they are cool. More often than not, I would think that some talented person, could lose out a chance to make it coutsry these folks. But that normally does not happen.

For a lot of weeks now, we will be taken thro the process involved in the making of the Star. Wow huh? I don’t think so. Going from the above participants list, I get this small alarm bell ringing within my head. We have been given a jhalak of the non talented, non musical sense presence outside in India. And it is this no ear for music type people that are waiting outside to send in their votes to ring in the new Star.

Alas, as it is with most Reality music shows, people are going to vote with their sentiments, and not vote for the talented. In the end, it is our people’s votes and not the judges who will be choosing their Idol. The respective TV channels would have raked in the moolah with advertisements and the SMS’s, and no one is left any wiser.Abhijit Sawant made it big, But Rahul Vaidya was better, I have heard both of them in concerts, and well there is nothing to compare.I wonder where last years idol went? The truth is we vote for all things in life for all the wrong reasons. Isn’t it why we have such excellent governance ?
