Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi
The picture of that Sunday night(in the middle of last year) is clear as anything in my mind. I was sitting on that couch surfing the channels, and, hang on, they were going to show the face of Jassi! Sony was never so urgent.......
That special episode of Jassi on Sunday was attractive, but, only till they showed the face of our Jasmeet Walia. Come on, I had a bet with my pals that it was going to be Shweta Tiwari(Prerna of Kasautii...)! But, alas(which later turned into HURRAH!), it was this young lady with big(I mean it) spectacles, braces, irritating hairstyle and an acting with a good deal of homework.
Well, come next Monday, and there was incredible change in everybodys opinion. That intelligent lot which rejected it, nearly gave it standing ovation after a few episodes. This Mon-Thurs 9:30 pm show ran like a current through where I live. Was it going to be a KBC for Sony. Apparently, somehow, YES! Indeed, the time could never have been more suitable. It was a success.
Though, its TRPs were(and are) no match for Ektas K brigade(Kyunki....; Kahani....; Kkusum), but still it was a grand success. DJs(the producers) had hit the bulls eye with a different(not original) plot, and quite a good star cast. Mona Singh(?) as Jassi and cute Apoorv as Arman(I hate him) form the lead pair. Media was in all praise for the show; Jassi was the topic of discussion at my school; and many I-MISSED-PARTY-FOR-JASSI talks! Indeed, it was like a Renaissance, the rise of a new small screen era in India. A lot was expected from Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi.
And now, let me welcome you to our present. Jassi.... is losing the race, glory and apparently, its viewers. In my opinion, Jassi today offers nothing new AT ALL. Its starting was fresh, the plot was interesting and the direction was good. But, is there a need to say that a change is must? It is, indeed; wherever you go, whatever you do. Probably, that is the success mantra of Ekta Kapoors soaps. And, this is one department Jassi.. is lacking in. The story has hung, it is dragging. A regular viewer(like me) feels it very difficult to reject it as he has admired it to the extent of KBC.
Technically, though, it is doing good. There is depth in the script and detail in direction. Background score is solid, but repetitive(Ive heard that tune 10, 000 trillion times now). But, something very important is missing. While youre in front of the idiot box, you do feel Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi, and that because there are small interesting sequences and scenes. But, they hardly move the store ahead. It is not like the hit Kasautii., where Anurag has married three times; it is a true and honest story(and, I think, that is what Indians, me too, dont like). Come on, we need some drama, thrill and twists.
I highly recommend Jassi, but for only those whove never seen it before. Those whove left Jassi after some shows, kindly do not bother to return; theres nothing fresh. Those who watch it daily, hang on and wait.....Im with you; a day will come when theres a twist.
