The programme revolves around the Plain Jane Jasmeet Walia aka Jassi(Mona Singh)
who is a financial wizard and rises from being a secretary to the post of ’finance head’ at Gulmohar Fashion House. Her boss Armaan Suri (Apoorva Agnihotri) is better at women than with figures (of the financial kind) and his blundersome decision making (along with that of Raj) puts Gulmohar in major financial problems. To keep his chair he must rely on Jassi’s genius, and what can be a better way to ensure her loyalty than pretending to be in love with her.
A major plus point the programme has is a very natural acting by the entire cast. Though one might wonder if there can be someone as naïve, pure hearted and shaky as Jassi but the fact is that Mona Singh, episode after episode, is convincing at it. Her parents Balwant Walia/Billu and Amrit, granny ’Bebe’ fit their parts as if custom made for them. What a refreshing change from the foundation-laden aunties of Ekta Kapoor, where mothers and daughters are often of the same age (24 ?) and mental status (deficient ?) and could easily play vice versa in the next programme.
Billu plays the finicky father who is over protective over his ’Queen Victoria’ Jassi to the extent of being irksome. Amrit, his wife is a picture of serenity. They sort of make u feel you’ve met them before.
Many of us relate to Jassi’s gang at office-Maria, Ruby Mom, Bindia and Nausheen. Don’t all of us have our own babbling coterie at work with whom we we share so many secrets, who make the otherwise bloodthirsty, spiteful workplace a fun place! Then there are the quintessential vamps. Mallika Seth (Rakshanda Khan) the classy, articulate fiancée of Armaan begrudges the middleclass, awkward Jassi her success.
Then comes Pari. Actually Pari or BabyDoll for Nandu is more of a court Jester. She bedazzles with her fashion sense and stupefies with her nonsense. Watching her fall flat on her face is pure delight and she’ll stand straight up and walk off - the oomph factor intact! Maddie too is hilarious with his antics.
Now for the unrealistic part- Can someone working for a fashion house be as sloppily dressed as Jassi? Can someone with Jassi’s intellect not have the commonsense to judge that Armaan is using her? Can a Purab fall for a Jassi? The answer to these questions is a big NO. And that is why probably JASSI JAISSI KOI NAHIN!!!
And because Jassi jaisi koi nahin , she evolves to be the unofficial trouble shooter of Gulmohar from being the object of ridicule. Watch the programme for her unadulterated laughter
.Am I impressed? Sure am. And then so is Maddie, the gay designer of Gulmohar who no more shoos Jassi away __he calls her the most beautiful girl in the world!! If you look at Jassi you would know that this is no small achievement.
