How Jio is cheating customers with recharge plans?

Jio has certain plans which are applicable only on certain devices like Jiophone. Since the plans are attractive lot of subscribers recharge their sim cards with these plans and realise that the plans won’t work on smartphone or Jiofi internet dongle.

When you recharge from internet or mobile, it is not very obvious that the plans won’t work on all devices. They do not give any alert saying that this plan is applicable only on Jiophone. The plans are made attractive so that people fall prey to it.

The worst thing is that they do not have any provision to change or upgrade to any other plan. The only option is to recharge with another plan and you lose the money already paid. Thousands of customers may be losing money like this and Jio is silently siphoning of this money without providing any service. Since the money involved is small, most people do not pursue it, giving Jio opportunity to make money by unfair means.

I recharged my Jiofi device 8xxxx25486 with Rs.297 plan which would give unlimited calls and 0.5gb/day for 84 days. However I realized that the plan is not working when my internet stopped working. Myjio app is showing that the plan is active but phone or net is not working. It took few days for me to figure out that it is not working and the plan is applicable only on Jiophone.

First of all, there should not be plans specific to a device. Why should customers be discriminated based on what device they are using. Secondly, they should give clear indications and alerts while recharging that the plan is applicable only of certain devices. Thirdly if by mistake anybody has taken the wrong plan, there should be an option to convert it to any other plan. Without these, it can be taken as a deliberate attempt to siphon of money from unsuspecting customers.

When their customer support is contacted, they recognize the problem but wash of their hands saying that there is no provision to change the plan or use the money in someway. Below is a response I got from Jio-care’It would have been our pleasure to refund/adjust/transfer the recharge which you have done on the Jio number however, such feature is currently not provisioned in the system. In order to use the services, you need to recharge with the smartphone plan."

This is called SmatCheating by Jio in this era of internet. Pls suggest if there is ways to approach regulatory authorities about this cheating in public interest.
