If you had asked me a month back, would you see Kadhal, I would have said, You must be kidding buddy?? After lot of deliberations and a situation whereby I had to see Kadhal with my cousin, I went. (With a lot of hesitation).
Whoa. Now that?s a really good movie. With absolutely nothing novel, to create such an impact needs to be lauded. I just don?t want to give spoilers or tell you the ending. It has to be seen to be believed. The shock and jolt it offers is extraordinary.
(See the initial reels very carefully, that would add to the shock impact).
Do you really want me to tell the story?
Ok. Here I go.
Rich girl. Poor boy. Girl in school. Boy mechanic (ofcourse, uneducated). Girls dad (yaya, go ahead guess it? Big dada). Boy?s mother, a wageworker. Girl falls for guy. The two elope. A friend helps. Girls dad on their hunt. Lovers get separated.
Now that would make everyone think, WTF is this guy raving about.
Enticing screenplay (I think bollywood directors have to just see this and learn something) & to make plots & intriguing sub-plots is a talent that is specialized down south. Balaji Sakthivel (Director) just proves that hes The maverick shankers (A master at screenplay) assistant. Writing a screenplay for such an obvious plot must have been the most difficult task. Just great work from the diro. The fact that this was a true story just helped.
The characters seem to blend with the film so much that it makes us believe they are with us. Performances are top-rate. Never expected such good performances from a totally unknown cast (I?m not kidding, I had seen only the hero b4).
Bharath as the boy, sparkles. Gosh, this has to be one of the best performances by a young actor. He definitely acts beyond his age. His chirpy smile, perfect mechanic look (can?t believe, he was the cool dude in Boys), his vulnerability are the films strength.
As his perfect partner, Sandhya (Is this her first film...u must be kidding) just swallows the role like shes eating some Halwa dipped in ghee. Flawless performance. You just can?t expect anything more from a debutante.
Dhandapani (I finally came to know his name) as the girl?s father gives a ferocious performance. Best villain (any doubt?). As a caring yet possessive father he is as good (bad) as it can get.
Special mention for the person who acts as the girl?s chitappa (Fathers brother). One hand, but thumps up. You have to see it to believe this guys acting skills. One word about his role- Cunning.
The supporting cast just fits the bill.
Joshua Sridhar (Music) could have just tried to innovate and made a name for himself. He simply gives in and supports the movie beautifully. Thotu thotu, Kaadhal, unnaku naan are beautiful numbers. BGM is just right.
The fact that this film looks so real is because of Vijay Miltons Cinematography. The film is shot in real colours. Great work.
Balaji Sakthivel has given one of those rare gems. I just can?t fit this movie into some category. Happy-lovei-Tragi-shocky.
Just go 4 it.
Psss? think I need counseling for movies. Oh god, How many have I missed (Sob).
