Change of attire vis-a-vis marital status

This refers to the serial Kasauti Zindagi Ki which is being stretched for many years now. Same old tactics, same old situations. Still can’t fathom the writer’s mind. The reason I see it? Simply because I want to know the end of the story. I have given one month to my family within which if this serial doesn’t end I wil stop seeing it.

My reason to write this review is to highlight the producer/director’s misguided whim in dressing their women characters. Note Prerana, the heroine of the serial. Whenever she attains a ’married woman’ status, she switches to wearing saris, zari saris for that matter everywhere, hospital even when her daughter is fighting serious illness. (At least she changes into a nightgown at night unlike some other serials where the woman slept with a zari sari-most incongruous!)

Whenever Prerana gets the status of a divorcee or an unmarried woman which has happened back and forth in this serial she suddenly switches to salwar suits and slacks. What is the director/producer trying to tell the viewers? That sari is the most pious dress! Modern girls have adopted these two kinds of attire for their day-to day life. Sari is for occasions, for dressing up. If this pattern was mingled justifiably during the course of the serial it would not have felt unusual.

Earlier, Komolika, who was a happily married woman decided to turn into a villain, she starts wearing vampish clothes everywhere. She still dresses vampishly albeit in a sari!

The director and producer, both women, have not done justice to the modern woman of India by such depiction. I am sure the workday clothes of these two women are slacks or a salwar suit!
