Woman...can you define her?
No, a proud owner of the perfect female genitals alone doesnt qualify to be called a Woman. Call her a Lady, but not a Woman. Let me define you A Woman, the way I know her. Also, every word that Ill be taking about in this review is about a Woman and not just a mere lady.
Woman is that female specie that deserves every ounce of the throne of womanhood...the epitome of this gender. Shes strength, courage, compassion, passion, anger, kindness, jealousy, forgiveness, dignity, humbleness, modesty, self-respect, pride, vulnerable, daredevil, intelligent... Dont take these as mere adjectives. Theyre a lot more than just words. Something that youll never know unless youve seen a Woman in her true form.
Why this Woman talk?
Firstly because Im one & secondly because this movie is about one!
Khoon Bhari Mang with the literal translation means a marriage in bloodshed. It simply means, A Woman Scorned! Marriage, to any Woman (okay, let me be specific here since Im talking about a Bollywood film)...an Indian Woman doesnt just mean nuptial vows, aftermath of a romance-filled honeymoon, children and a life of boredom & compromise. No! Marriage is her lifeline yet, its not her lifes weakness, the death knell! A woman can love as if shes the last thing that mattered when it came to giving to her loved ones. But, she could be the Devil momma if someday she realises that the one receiving her love doesnt deserve her respect, let alone her love.
With this Preface let me introduce you to the Woman around whose life this movie revolves. Its the story of transformation of a seemingly simple Lady into the Real Woman that she was within. Its a story of Loved & lost, offered love & denied, loved & wronged but, above all the story of Love becoming the Strength & Courage! :)
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
The Movie:
A 1987 production,
Genre: General
Banner: Filmkraft
Director: Rakesh Roshan
Producer: Rakesh Roshan
Star Cast: Rekha, Kabir Bedi, Sonu Walia, Shatrughna Sinha, Kader Khan, Rakesh Roshan & 2 cute kids whose name I do not know!
The Story:
Since this is an old one most of you must?ve already seen it. However, let me just gist out the storyline here to go by the norms of revu-writing.
Rekha plays the role of the wife of a rich man, played by Rakesh Roshan. They?re a happy complete family with 2 cute kids, pets (a dog & I loved that stallion!), a mute caretaker and a doting mother-like maid. All?s well until the Gods turn away and the man of the family is secretly murdered.
A widowed mother of 2 and suddenly facing the responsibility of running an empire-like business, the Woman in question is at her Vulnerable Best! Along comes Mr. Compassionate, Kabir Bedi, who at his charming best allures Rekha into a second wedlock along with Sonu Walia, her best friend?s help. From here starts the journey of hell for Rekha and watch the character?s strength shine through during the transformation of a vulnerable lady into a fierce tigress of a Woman who cares damn about the world when it comes to the safety of her children.
The character doesn?t just show an emotional transformation but, also the power of a physical transformation that is the stepping stone towards her goal for Rekha?s character. Then follows the age old formula of revenge and good triumphing in the end and the baddies getting duly punished.
Watch out for:
Songs: Beautiful songs, inspirational (Haste Haste kat jaye raste, Jeene ke bahaane laakhon hai), emotional and the likes.
Rekha: I couldn?t imagine anyone else having done this role the way she did it. Very convincing in both versions of womanhood, the buck-toothed, scarred, ugly mom of two to the glamorous, sensuous & strong Woman protecting her two children & her dignity.
Kabir Bedi:He has done a convincing job of the suave flirt and the baddie. Couldn?t help liking to hate him in this role.
Kader Khan: & his comedy. Okay, I?ve watched this so many times that now it?s difficult to force anything but a smile now. However, for the first-timers at least, this will surely worth the watch.
That?s it about the movie from me. I?d term it as an Inspirational Movie, especially for a Woman. This doesn?t mean that u gotta be a sadist and expect ur husband to drop dead the next minute and leave u stranded. It just means that derive the positive strength from this movie and watch the woman in you grow!
Cheers!
