My sister is still hitting me by saying why didnt I informed her about Channel V Popstars? I did it for her good.
Popstars is famous worldwide for selecting girls and making a girl-band. Just 5 girls from thousands? This is sure to bring disappoint to many. I was confident that my sister is a bad singer, and she will not make it. Atleast, I saved her from the humiliation!
Now they are showing it on TV. There are four judges with specific duties. Sandeep Chowta to get the inner abilities of the singers, Shubha Mudgal to get the singing abilities, Manish Malhotra to now whether the girls can have changed look and appear better and Sushma Reddy to know glam inside the girls. Of them all, it seems like only Sandeep Chowta is the judge. The rest are left smiling and giggling.
Popstars travelled to 6 cities for their five girls. Chandigarh, Delhi, Calcutta, Bangalore, Mumbai and Goa were their destinations. Of them all, girls from Mumbai and Delhi had the mattle. The rest were kinda OK, but not up to the mark.
We got to hear some real bad voices of our country. Not even a single girl had a good voice. Some were there for timepass, and got selected. The serious ones were rejected.
A lady came out crying in the Mumbai auditions as she was rejected. She said that she is an A-grade ghazal singer for AIR. And yes, truly, some Z-Grade singer with bad voices, but with looks were getting selected. I do not know whether it was a singing competition or a beauty pagaent?
My other complaint is, why only girls? Are only girls glamourous and good singers? Why not boys too? I suppose, there would have been tougher competition with the boys then what we saw with the girls! What say, guys? Some really screeching voices were at display. This gender-biasness for what? I think they hoped many will see this program only for the girls! But the show is a major disappointment.
This show was not for people with conservative attitude. Girls should be ready to wear short dresses, but sing Hindi! Whats going on? I am not against any modern thoughts. But again this is outrageous. Is this singing or flesh-show? I have seen videos where girls wore western dresses, and still look covered and beautiful. In Popstars form it was written that girls will have a modernised look, even wearing short dresses.
Nowadays, music too is commercialised. With lots of sponsors backing such shows, and people singing just for money. When the question was asked to the girls whether they will come for the show or appear for their exams? These gullible girls said that they would better like to bunk the exams! Isnt it the magnet of money? People were there just to make it big, not for the sake of music. People even ready to play with their career! What if all this fails? They will be left with nothing. Others will also feel that exams and career are not important. Such gist was promoted in Popstars.
They also say that girls only above 18 are allowed. But being 18 makes one secure and independent? It just legally makes you an adult, and nothing else. The channel has to assure the security of every girl involved.
But there were some good aspects as well. Sandeep Chowta giving his original compositions for the girls to sing, and the various forms of Chura Liya song were also nicely composed. The attitude of some girls was only very nicely presented. The show is also beautifully edited and packaged.
I hope these CokeStars, I mean, Popstars, get what they deserve. They are away from their family and their parents are hoping for their best.
The other rejected girls have develop a grudge on Channel V. They might have vowed not to watch this channel again. I think they have lost thousands of their viewers!!
Bye then people. Happy Reading!
