I went to Kodai with my wife in May for our honeymoon. After a lot of search we narrowed down on 2 hotelThe first one was Carlton - it was a bit expensive (around 8000 per night). The second one was a 3 star - Kodai international. It came to approx 5500 per night. Since we are paying so much there was a lot of expectations. The website photos looked extraordinary. We were really excited. I had booked a Deluxe Cottage for 3 nights. The hotel is situated close to the lake.
On reaching Kodai we had to take a untarred raod that needs to be taken from the main road. The location is not that good ( other than the closeness to lake). The paint of the hotel had become shabby. The cottage that we booked was not a cottage. It was just a separate building away from the hotel. I would suggest that it is better to stay in the normal room rather than to waste money on the cottage.
On entering there was a mini fridge with some cool drinks. The fridge was extremely dirty and the cool drinks bottles smelled. We needed to wash them before drinking. The rooms were ok, but not of the normal 3 star standard. There was no bath tub either. There was a bucket and mug for taking bath. The food and drinks are expensive, but the quality was not good.
Now coming back to the positive points, the staff were extremely courteous. The travel desks were very good. The lawn, park and other areas were huge and well maintained. The location is near to lake.
Though I like Kodai as a place, the general standards of the hotels are way below that of other places like OOty, Coimbatore etc. I had visited couple of other hotels/resorts, but they too were not up to the mark for the price they charge.
I might consider staying in the normal room rather than the deluxe cottage in hotel Kodai Internatinal if I go to Kodai again.
