Las vegas - Entertainment capital

Las Vegas, also called Sin City for some special reasons, The Entertainment Capital of the World, America’s Playground --

call it what you want, but one thing’s for sure, Vegas is the most flagrantly fun city in the world right now, and is one place which one would like to visit atleast once in a year , as visiting twice might be a little too heavy on pocket for some.

I visited Vegas when I was living in Philly and managed to get a good deal on NorthWest Airlines at 350 USD to and fro from Philly. Expedia.com is a great site sometimes to get some deals but what it does to you is adds a day to your intinerray sometimes , as it was for me. Though I did not mind it but its killing on your pocket spending another day in Vegas because you can’t control.

Any time in the year is a good time to visit this place and city is alive at all times .. I dont like sleeping myself too much but in Vegas the 5 days I spent was with no sleep at all .. completely by choice then anything else and you never feel it. Vegas is paradise for people who like to party hard.

One can get a cheap accomodation there with eyes open for a agood deal on the net, I got a deal for 50 USD per night which was excellent considering its a rush time near New year..Besides I got it from Expedia as well as a package deal ..:) .

I am not too much into a gambling , but never had too much time visiting all the other happening places in Vegas..including the NASCAR simulated car race centre .. The 10 minute car race makes you sweat and was more then a simulation to me.

I was lucky to attend a marrige in vegas and its a treat. There’s nothing quite like a Vegas wedding, whether it’s simple and spontaneous or a cast-of-thousands affair.

Though its usually a safe place but one of my friends got robbed of his luggage when he has parked his rental car in the hotel parking only to find his luggage stolen. But I still feel its a rare incident and he was just unlucky.

Vegas, once better known for its slot machines, organised crime, legalised prostitution and rat pack hellraisers, Lost Wages has cleaned up its act and repositioned itself as a boomtown of upmarket hotels, gourmet restaurants, exclusive shops and world-class art galleries.

Las Vegas may seem the least likely place for viewing masterpieces by artists such as Cézanne, Gauguin and Renoir, but somehow, in a city where anything goes, it works.

The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art is the place to catch the big names (the current exhibition, The Impressionist Landscape from Corot to Van Gogh, runs to January 2005). But the Rem Koolhaas-designed Guggenheim Hermitage Museum, the first joint venture between the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg and New York’s Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation, is often better for culture of a more thrilling nature (The Majesty of the Tsars: Treasures from the Kremlin Museum is also on show until January next year).

Las vegas has one of the best and exclusive resturants and are increasing at a fast pace. The whole concept started a few years back when Wolfgang Puck opened an offshoot of Spago, his fashionable Beverly Hills restaurant, in the Forum shopping mall in Caesars Palace. Since then, almost every celebrity chef and hip restaurateur in the US has opened an eaterie in one of the city’s hotels

One of The most prized table is at Julian Serrano’s Picasso at the Bellagio , boasting 11 genuine Picassos with a carpet and furniture designed by the artist’s son Claude, as well as serving superb dishes, such as poached oysters with caviar and pigeon risotto. A must visit.

For poeple who can afford , there is really only one significant new hotel on the block, The Wynn Las Vegas ( http://www.wynnlasvegas.com, doubles from €167). The sleek, 50-storey curve of copper-coloured glass is the first mega-resort to open in the city since 2000 and is the brainchild of Mr Las Vegas himself, the legendary ’’Donald Trump of the West’’, Steve Wynn. The new, ultra-modern, €2.2 billion Wynn Las Vegas hotel and the ’’100 Years of Fabulous Las Vegas’’ centenary celebration banners are a riot of sleazy bars, strip joints, escort services and motels renting rooms by the hour.

Las Vegas is the fastest-growing city in North America -- its 1.8 million population is expanding so quickly that the town’s Yellow Pages has to be updated every six months
