I had the terrible misfortune of dining at Pakwan- The Indian restaurant of the Le Meridian group of hotels in Delhi, last week on for a family function.
To describe the whole experience(including the morose gazal singers) as a disappointment would be an understatement. But let me focus in on the main issue - Terrible Food.
We started with an assortment of vegetable kebabs, which were, I admit, pretty good(nothing exceptional though). But, it was the main course that left a bad taste.
We had ordered Dal Makhani(Dal Panchrangi, or something like that actually) along with Malai Kofta and Rogan Josh(Mutton dish).
The dal was acceptable, nothing great about it either. The Malai kofta tasted like Aloo Pakora in butter gravy(Yes, Aloo Pakora, there was no Paneer or malai in the dish) and Rogan josh tasted like pieces of rubber in Dum aloo gravy.
It was horrifying to gulp down that kofta and mutton, and to top it off, with a price like Rs700 per dish, we obviously felt ripped off.
The waiters, though, were quite congenial and we did raise the issue of the aweful preparations, but they had a standard reply for that too-"This is our standard preparation and we had been serving it to our satisfied customers for years".. Well so much for that.
I will never be headed back to LeMeridian if I ever craved for Mughlai(Bukhara rocks..)Infact Bukhara (and Dum pukht) are the only Five star restaurants I know off, which serve amazing Mughlai.
One sour experience courtesy Pakwan.
