Are the Film Makers crazy about short-cut victories these days or aren’t they confident about their own story-making ? Why is every Director running after Remake movies ? It’s an undeniable fact that, of late, most of the Tamil films which have performed excessively well in the industry are Remake movies ! One such successful remake recent Tamil movie is “M. Kumaran – Son of Mahalakshmi” !
About this movie, this is basically a remake of the Telugu Film “Amma Naana, Oka Thamizh Ammayi”. There are lot of things which have contributed to the success of this great movie – first and the foremost being the beautiful storyline, then comes the excellent picturization, the Director, Hero Ravi, Super-Dooper Actors Nadhiya & Prakash Raj, the beauty queen Asin and last but never the least, the superb music of Srikanth Deva !
Story
The College Guy hero Kumaran (Actor Jeyam Ravi) is the proud son of Mahalakshmi (Actress Nadhiya) and his ambition is to become an international Kick Boxer. His mother never reveals anything about his father who had ran away many years ago. The mother and the son are just made for each other and for Kumaran, his mother is his Best Friend, Philosopher & Guide. They share almost anything and everything on the earth ! In the meantime, hero Kumaran meets the Keralite Asin and falls in love with her & reveals about his love to his mother. His mother meets Asin, whom the hero calls quite often as “Malabar” and has a chat with her. Unexpectedly, the mother Mahalakshmi becomes serious due to a heart problem and during her last few seconds before passing away, she reveals the details about Kumaran’s father to him.
Not exactly knowing the whereabouts of his lover Asin, Kumaran proceeds to Malaysia where his father Easwar (Actor Prakash Raj) lives with his another wife (the Old Actress Aishwarya … hey, NOT OUR AISHWARYA RAI) and a daughter. Kumaran and his father are mostly like cat and rat & Kumaran is surprised to find that his father Easwar is the Father of Kick Boxing, which has been his dream ! Does Kumaran & his father get to understand & love each other ? Did Kumaran become an international Kick Boxer ? Did Kumaran meet his lover Asin etc… are the rest of the story.

• The key factor that has contributed to the great success of this wonderful movie is the emotional story line. The love between a mother and a son, hero and heroine, father and the son have been said in a very charming way. It’s also indeed great to see such a neatly scripted screen-play.
• Hero Ravi has surely done a great homework to prepare himself for his character in this film. Compare him with his first movie Jeyam with Sadha, Phew… ! Ravi has undoubtedly improved his physique to suit his character, his body language and accentuation. He is sure to become one of the best in the Field soon !
• Prakash Raj is never the least in any movie …. Here too, it’s the same ! As an egoistic man, an emotional father, a proud Kick Boxer, Prakash Raj is just the best.
• Nadhiya as usual, has performed very well as the hero’s mother. She is still young and energetic !
• Unlike the usual dummy heroines, Asin does have some better role to play in this movie. She is stunning and acts pretty well too. Being a Keralite herself, acting in this character wouldn’t have been a major problem for her. She is definitely an added charm to the film.
• MUSIC – IS just the BEST ! Almost every song is excellent in its own way. The best are “Chennai Senthamizh Marandhen Unnaaley….” and “Aiyyo Aiyyo….”. The Choreography is superb and certainly worth a mention in almost all the songs !
Overall, M. Kumaran is a Great Movie among the recently released Tamil films. ‘Jeyam’ Ravi is just superb as a highly ambitious Hero and has done an excellent job ! Do watch this movie with family / friends and I am sure it would be a feast to you all & a way out of your masala monotony !
